Bit of advice needed
Not boiled maize up for a few years now.
Soaked some for 24hrs and been simmering it now for 2hrs 30 mins. It's still very firm to the touch and
Not soft enough to squish in ya fingers.
Any pointers if just keep cooking it

Wow!! I do a 24hr soak and half hour boil and it's normally on the verge of bursting. I would say there is something wrong with the maize. It should be cooked by now.

I'd agree with Greeksii. I tend to do 48hr soak followed by 45 minutes to an hour boil, always leaves it cooked nicely

First lot came from hinders. Had to throw it away. Like bullets
Second lot came from a farm shop.
Just cooked a third batch from the farm shop bag and 24hr soak and boiled for an hour. Seems ok. So got a fourth on soak for tomorrows cooking.
Spent more on gas than maize so far 🤦🏼♂️

maize is hard, you won't be able to squish it between your fingers mate, a percentage of it will split open whilst it's simmering, usually 20 mins in the pan is enough

Not exactly squish but it's gotta be softened to put it in the pond. The first 2 lots were as hard as what was in the bag. Can't put that in the water. Was like granite.
Been a few years since I cooked me own but I know it usually softens up a bit. 👌🏻

I have also had the issue with maize staying quite hard and not splitting a couple of times mostly from maize I bought in Croatia but the stuff in Germany from a farm shop always splits perfectly arter a 24h soak and around 30-40min boil.
For hard maize, try adding a teaspoon of bi carbonate of soda for every dry kilo you make at the soaking stage

I always use the simple test of if I can chew it then so can a carp. On the continent they feed uncooked maize and dont seem to have any issues.
Are you adding anything to it prior to soaking or boiling?

I have had this before - Use a pressure cooker if you have one. Solved the problem for me.

I believe they do. I've seen it mentioned a few times (I believe on here too) that as long as soaked and the Particle has expanded then it's safe to use.
In my eyes, I couldn't be sure and would much rather spend an hour cooking it than worry about it doing harm to the fish

Im convinced the cooking process makes maize a million fold more appealing to carp

Agreed. I've always tried to use freshly cooked, but the fermented maize method on the forum recently have piqued my interest.
FYI - When I say used on the continent it seems to be for feed by fishery owners. I don't think it's anglers. Just to clarify.

Maybe give it a longer soak for up to a week, you can change the water during this soaking period.
I personally wouldn't want to be simmering any bait for 2 and a half hours, for me it's usually 15-30 minutes tops.
