Hi All,
After some advice for a lake where I'm finally allowed to use particle and nuts.
Everyone uses boilies and they do feed boilies but I want to go against the grain... any advice on which particles you would start with?
cheers

Tigers hemp and corn, crush half the tigers, fish a balanced small tiger hookbait
You can also be different and still use boilies for example crumbling them, mixing them with white crumb and liquids and balling in like matchmen provides a unique baiting situation on the bottom, setting aside a portion of dryer mix you could put it in solid bags?
For single hookbaits and bag fishing red perperami is a brilliant change bait, full of fats and spices

My usual particle mix is pigeon conditioner or mixed chicken corn, with a few tigers.
Now while the chicken corn will go with just a 24hour soak, I have always found it more attractive after a soak and boil.
I also like adding Vitalin to the mix.
It works as a feed and bait in its own right, but I do like it as a background feed with boilies as well.

Hemp, corn, shave a few brazil nuts into "garlic slices) ...use half a Brazil nut as hookbait

You have so many options, for me I would begin with a parti-blend type mix as the base with a selection of bigger particles, corn, maize, tiger nuts, maples and go from there.
It's a cheap but very effective method.

chilli hemp, bit of corn and a scattering of tigers.
balanced tiger over the top
all depends on the bream situation also, i like to soak my hemp in water, grated belachan block and about 200g of extra hot chilli powder per 5kg of dry hemp. boil outside though, as if you have a wife you wont for much longer cooking that inside

Tigers and hemp. Not sure there is a better particle. If you want to go cometely off piste try peanuts, chickpeas or Brazil nuts.

I'd rate Peanuts over tigers, only because fish aren't really likely to have seen them.

what ever particle one choses to use....DONT flavour them

Chick peas ,soaked in Heinz Tomato soup..

chickpeas soaked in chick pea juice
stick flavours and rubbish on particles, nuts etc (like 99.9% of anglers do) takes away what particles should be

I know Josh ,lots of people reckon not to soak um,with flavours
Back in the day lol,we was doing a week's sponsored fish for charity ,using various boilies ,enervite, biolix etc ,struggling wasn't the word ,til we got recommended to boil up some chick's in Tomato soup ..this we did..
Fished down the edge, with massive slick on the surface,I think jimbo had 37 takes ,where previously we was blanking shamefully,I only ended up with 18 carp ..
And a Dutch flavour was good as well,Cipro pineapple ,was proper effective..don't know if Cipro is still going ..
Sometimes strange things work,I'm out right now, earlier had a 8lb tiger trout on a Ringers chocolate orange mini boilie..

agree mate,
Ive always been slightly baffled about the "need" for modern day anglers to take a perfectly good "bait" and change its natural attraction with other attraction bits n bobs that everyone uses, completely ruining its natural profile a carp will eat over n over again.
Take Tigers, theres not a carp in the country what wont eat them, yet people still mess about with them.

If we're talking synthetic flavours I agree, however some natural raw sugars make a brilliant difference, as can salt, garlic, chilli etc

The one i never got is why people wash out baits to make them look “old”, but then soak in liquids to boost the attraction?

Because magazines lol.
For some people, they want the softness of washed out baits but not to lose the attraction, so companies tell them to add more flavour instead of avoiding washing out the original flavour to begin with. you can add enough water to saturate baits without diluting them but then their sponsors wont be happy

I'm in a similar boat (although no whole nuts... Only ground) and think I am going to go for a simple chili hemp, ground tigers & maize mix initially. With some boilies thrown in for good measure.

Black sweetened tigers over hemp

never understood this....
i soak the bait to make it look like its old and bee there a while.... but the fish doesn't know what colour the bait was before it entered the lake
just swilling out the flavors and solubles and leaving them in a bucket.

It's more of a tactic for over flavoured ready maxes in my opinion, it's also meant to soften them.
I mean there is no two ways about it, every carp that's ever lived prefers soft food, less calories burned to eat it

How do we know they prefer soft food? Caddis, snails, mussels, tigers, etc, etc, etc

Mozzi is correct. It's basic ecological theory, relates to all fauna. If in doubt, read up on Optimal Foraging Theory.

So why do they eat them instead of other soft items?

Well, they don't eat snails and mussels because of the shells, do they? They want to get at the protein inside.
Tigers=energy=sugar rush.
Think about it... Why do you think you would eat a succulent steak as opposed to a bit that has been cooked so much its like rubber?

Ill stop eating ribs as there's a bone on it then.
So if i can make a rock hard boilie with a sugar rush, that would be a good thing? Get them to take it right back to the crunching teeth?

Tigers are 25% sugars, so if you cram 25% of neat Glucose in, then probably!
Onto the ribs thing....again, you're not eating then because of the bone are you (unless you are part dog!)?
