Hi folks,
Just invested in some tournaments for use on bigger pits. What mods do people recommend for these?
I've read about line clips being a bit harsh, also seen carbon washers, worm gears and other odds and sods sold for these.
From experienced users... what updates do I need to make to these?

I had some nice daiwa X5500a reels, i added a proper line clip, quick dragged the spool cap and fitted carbon washers.
The carbon washers are not really essential.

Just do the line clip mate. The standard drag is excellent.

Do you still need to bother with the line clip on the new ones? Looks like the new spools come with a big black round clip?

I want to replace the line clips on my 5000a's as the originals are a bit sharp/weak and will no doubt blow at some stage.
Where did you get replacements Dave and are they easy to DIY?

Sorry, this was fake news! I have 6000t and assumed they used the same clips. Crazy that they don't as the spool diameters are the same as they use the same spool rubbers.

i see johnson ross and tft sapre spools for 6000t have round clips in picture, i wonder if this is a new roll out by daiwa

I got my clips from south coast custom reels, available on ebay if you search replacement daiwa line clip.
There was a thread (link below) where i mentioned how i did it and some of the issues to help/avoid.
A miniature c clip has to be manoeuvred with long nosed pliers to trap a miniature spring, very fiddly.

I upgraded line clips on my daiwa emblem X reels and a daiwa infinity reel.
A bit tricky and fiddly...
Well worth tying a long loop of cotton to one end of the spring so its retained when (not if) it tries to leave the country.
The way to do it is use long nosed pliers and do not hold the little circlip at either side (at 90°) but hold about 1mm of it dead centre with the pliers pinching from either side (so the pliers are in line with the clip stem).
Compress the spring and then slide the circlip on to the back end of the line clip.
If the line clip spring decides to leave the party early then its already on a retainer.
I also noticed that the recess for the daiwa line clips is machine cut and the edges are slightly edgier than i would have liked so i took some time to file them down and just round off the squareness of the cut away section. Better to do before fitting the line clip, unlike me!
It now feels very slightly rounded and smooth to the touch.

I've bought the anti reverse part from Weston. Haven't been arsed to fit it yet though! It's not a major one, but will be nice to have a bit less play in the handle.

I just did the line clips and added carbon washers to my SS3000's when the felt ones started slipping, rest is fine...
Friend of mine forked out for the slow oscillation worm shafts in his Tourneys and had Weston fit them, think it was £50 or £60 per reel....biggest waste of money ever!

I've got line clips and QD caps on my Tournies . . . didn't like the QD at first but since I paid for them I'd thought I'd persevere and have actually grown to like them . . .fished locked up most of the time anyway so rather than three turns its three clicks and I'm in 'fighting drag' mode . . .

ive changed the line clips and prefer the felt washers with a qd cap giving a full turn from slack to locked up

Upgraded bail arm rollers for my set of s5000t. They work a treat.
Anyone know how robust the finish is on the black edition Tourny compared to the standard grey?

i think the paint on the black tournie is awful, its like a poor matt type which shows up marks easily

they should have made them same finish as the ss3000 I think. but unfortunately thats the way it is now, get things done as cheap as possible
