Got the Pro competition which is about the same size as a medium Spomb they cast extremely well open all the time. But the retrieve can be a bit of a ball ache sometimes if the line goes under one of the fins or the spod closes as it tends to fill with water & being leakproof it's like winding in a full spod . Well made & nothing to go wrong ie springs catches 👍

I've used the bigger one, it's pretty good. Opens when it hits the water but not if you knock it on something on the backswing of the cast which is a bonus.
Found the same with the line getting caught around the top on the retrieve, bit of a pain but not the end of the world. Might give the smaller one a go if it casts like the midi spomb

I rate them for short and medium work, open up every time and can hold a variety of bait in..

Used an x spod performance for the last month, its fantastic, casts lovely and opens every time. As said it very occasionally snaps shut on retrieve which fills it with water and is heavy to wind in, that aside its easy to retrieve and skips smoothly across the water. I havent had the line caught round the top thing happen to me.

Had the larger one for at least 18 months now ...robust and casts well, I normally fish at ranges 90 to 125 and no issues baiting up at these ranges...still on my 1st purchased one 😃
Like others have said occasionally the line gets caught under the fins but no big deal...

Been using it for over a year now very rare it doesn't open I prefer it over spoms

I use medium spombs a lot fish everything week for 2 nights and they tend to last a max of 2 months before a spring breaks. Ive a garage full of broken ones. At £14 a pop I'm getting weary of them even though i prefer them over the nash dot spomb which seem bomb proof..
I fancy a wolf x spod but my I'm told they dont cast as well as a spomb? Most of my fishing on my syndicate is at 110 yds occasionally further. Wolf up to distance or not?

I actually lost one yesterday the plastic bit that holds the spring in place snapped off on the cast thus launching the spod into the great blue yonder 🤷♂️

They cast really nicely but have had mine not open numerous times which i find very frustrating hqve jusy bought a spomb midi x which may suit my fishing better

I've noticed whenever mines not opened it's usually because a tiny bit of crushed pellet or hemp is keeping the bottom of it from being 100% closed since I noticed that don't think I've had one fail since

The newer comp spod is great up to 90-100 yds imo, but does have some issues that the large Spider spod didn't, in that it dive's too easily on retrieve and also due to it's reduce size (and weight) it doesn't open every time. I ended up modding it to allow the sprung 'spreader bung' inside to travel further up the shaft to help the fins stay open on retrieve which has helped a lot, and using a spomb float improved it further. The internal spring could do with being re specced to a stronger one, which would solve all of these issues. But, it is good and size wise it is fine as it does not make too much disturbance like the larger spombs can..

You used to be able to buy a repair kit direct from fox for the spomb for around a fiver it isnt cheap for what you get the spring you need swivel assembly and think it also had the small spring and red catch.
If they are still available it would reduce the cost of buying newcomplete ones

It still amazes me how bad spombs are made but people are still using them and paying loads of money for them... some will even argue how they never fail... and all that **** about patent rights and threats to anyone making anything better will go down in history as legendary.

When spomb still owned it they sent the repair kits out free. I had a few but the spombs were never as good as new when i replaced the springs..
They break far to easy but i havent found a better bait deliver Method at range. I tried Nash dot spomb and thats ok but i found it heavy to retrieve when putting 30-40 spombs in and a touch too small.

I know this is an old thread but has anyone tried the new Wolf tri spod X competition, the old medium sized Wolf spod was a pain on the retrieval , anyone tried the new version ?

Not tried the new tri spod, but I got a couple of the China knock offs of the 4 way wolf spod.
They cast well and open well.

Where did you get them, I read the reviews on Temu site and they sounded pretty bad , with photos showing the moulding was off and the sides didn't evan meet !

I bought the night glow one, I used it and when it casts well it flies,however I did have quite a few weird casts where the spod would do this horrible wobbly sideways thingand it failed to hit the clip. a friend suggested to give it a shake before casting but I'm not convinced yet.
I'm off to sandhurst this week nmbut don't plan on baiting heavy but if I do I'll.let you know

You definitely want to give the X spods a shake down after loading to get everything down into the nose. When loaded like this they fly really well.

Can't remember if it was ali or temu.
they close just fine.
I was spombing to about 70yds, and filled with water to get it out to the mark so I could clip up and it sealed the water in OK.
To get it to fly better give your pellets a bit of a wet to add some weight, and give it a little shake to compact the weight into the nose.

Not yet but have 2 on their way, hopefully they managed to dial out the niggles with the 4 piece version. which I rate and have posted about previously. Fingers crossed..!

I think this one was always meant to be smaller than the original Wolf spod , around the size of a medium spomb, or Nash dot spomb, or is it smaller than that

Feels smaller than nash dot but because of the shape it might hold similar amount of bait

Great bits of kit knock the other choices to the way side imho. Great for getting those particle juice out as well.

I recently cracked off my spider spomb and decided to buy a cheap one from AliExpress.
Took a week come and seemed near enough the same as the spider.
I'm able to cast 100 ylds no problem and opens everytime so seems great value to me.
I abide spending £17 on something which is easy to lose

Managed to measure the capacity of the new tri spod against a Nash dot spod, the Wolf tri spod takes around two thirds of the capacity of the Nash dot spod. ! So not very big at all , OK for this time of year putting minimal boilie or pellets out !

Yep perfect for light baiting during the winter months. I believe there is a bigger version due out later this year.
