What do you all do with the rubbish you accrue during a session?

I've only done a couple of nights on my lake which has no on-site waste disposal - the first time I left the bin bag outside as I figured I didn't want to attract anything into the bivvy but within a few hours of darkness something had nibbled a sizeable hole in the bag and I was lucky I didn't all end up in the lake!

The second time I put the back back in my coolbox but seems a little unhygienic putting that with my fresh/yet to be eaten food and drink...

Figured I could zip it in my tackle bag; are the usual fishing bag materials animal proof?
Wouldn't want to attract something in the bivvy because it can smell food through the bag nor do I want a hole nibbled in the bag...

My final thought was put it in the bucket with my bait but that would probably get a bit messy once it's all glugged...

I take a round plastic quality street tub and that lives in the bottom of my collapsible bucket. I normally leave it outside the bivvy on a session but haven't even been troubled by rodents.

Hang it in a tree in a plastic bag untill the end of the session and then take it home 👍

Just don't make decorations out of them by leaving them at the end of the session like some dickheads

Usually just hang a carrier bag on the handle of my barrow and all rubbish goes in there.

Take a spare bait bucket. If you have two identical and one has bait in, put the full one inside the empty one and the lid of the empty one on top. Then it takes up no extra room.

Tins flatten them under your shoe and likewise with any box's etc. Before you flatten tins though, pack them with any paper, tissue, kitchen roll etc first. Plastic drink bottles etc, loosen the top and then "Roll" them up to flatten them out and get rid of the air from inside and then tighten the top up. Plastic water bottles are designed to do this with all the "ripples" that they have around them, you can just scrunch them up and tighten the top.

Another vote for the hanging carrier bag. Although I tend to have very little rubbish these days - main thing seems to be the pucks of coffee grinds from the Aeropress which I tap into a small sandwich bag. I don't drink tea, so no tea bags. Not a smoker, so no cig ends. And food is prepped at home and taken in plastic takeaway containers so no waste there. If it's super hot and I've grabbed a couple of bottles of coke or similar on my way (or an occasional beer), I just pop them in my barrow so they're separate & can go straight in the recycling at home once I've unloaded the car.

I kind of do that, although my empty bucket is my spod mix, what I spod in at the start of the session. It is then empty for my rubbish.
I have a number of buckets, 😆 Catering gravy granules buckets, in a nice green colour, one for boilies, one for pellets and chops to go in PVA bags, and the aforementioned spod mix bucket. They fir nicely inside each other, with the lids on top fitted together.

I can then simply put my non-recyclable waste in a plastic bag, inside the bucket, and my recyclable waste is loose in the bucket

Thank god there is someone else that goes fishing and knows what to do with the waste of us anglers.

I was starting to lose the will to live until I read your post Zack

OK here is what I do, most of the stuff I take fishing for a reasonable session, (3 nights at least) is pre cooked evening meals in re usable plastic containers, after use they get rinsed and put back into my food bag.
Breakfasts which are normally fried or cereal with fruit, again are removed from the original packages and also put into reusable containers, what's left of the fruit, being bio degradable is placed somewhere out of sight to degrade.
Drink cans or plastic bottles are crushed and reduced in size, the same as Zack.

Tea bags are taken home along with every other piece of rubbish I might generate.

I never, ever expect a fishery to provide waste bins for anglers, if you can carry full packaging that contains stuff you will consume whilst on the bank, then you can take the packaging home when empty.
No one but no one is responsible for your rubbish except you!!

If anyone is worried about mice, rats or anything else you think might get at your food or waste , take a bucket with a lid, I absolutely hate seeing rubbish bags hanging from ****ing trees!

Litter is a pet hate of mine, it's easily the biggest problem at public, commercial and club waters.

I use a 5 litre bucket to put my waste in,in the start of a sess it has a bit of bait,some food..I use it to sit on in the bivvy or watching the water..

Rubbish ,if you can bring it,you can take it away..

Leave rubbish on my syndicate,your banned, leave rubbish or burn marks ,fag butt's...anything on two of the lakes I manage,your gone, end of...I hate litter..there is no excuse for litter at all on fisheries,or in the countryside..


It's that simple..

Your syndicate sounds like fishing paradise mate just wish i could instill your ethos here in Spain
they are a dirty discusting bunch of anglers where i live
in Spain ...considering we all fish out of the back of the cars
and they are that lazy to pick it up and put in their car and drop it in the rubish bins provided when leaving the lake
One fantastic swim i fish in the middle of nowhere is like fishing in a landfill site ...they really don't care

It's a beautiful place,for sure. Took me from 1992 to get anywhere nr a place..now I'm the last member, as in im really the last..!!

Sounds like some sort of education is needed for the Spanish angling community,sound shocking for sure,if saw that amount of rubbish I'd be disappointed and disheartened..

This is the only downside to living in rural Spain
every where you go you will see rubbish and not just anglers chucking it everywhere
i used to have a Spanish fishing buddy and one day we were just packing up and i had put the rubbish next to the car
and wanted to climb up a rock to get some more footage looking down on the swim just as i turned my back Pedro
chucks the rubbish bag in the bushes
so i climb down and retrieve it and put it in the car this time and say leave it alone
well f**k me as soon as i turn my back he's only gone and thrown it out in the lake with a stone in it to sink it !!!!
lets just say it was fractious hour drive home with me biting my toungue
needless to say we just nod at each other now from opposite ends of the bar
and he was meant to be an educated man
they just have no respect for there country and sadly i think they are beyond education

I have always used a plastic bag hung up in a tree out of sight when possible

and see nothing wrong with that what so ever the important thing is when I leave there is NOTHING left no tea bags line clippings etc nothing !!!!!!!!!

and to me thats the important thing

I fish a public lake not big but decent fish in and a unofficial bailiff(re a guy with can of lager and spliff) goes round and puts clear bin bags in swims and then takes them to gate for bin men to put in truck

Nothing wrong with a bag in a tree if it's not 'in ya face' but you know as well as I do Gerry, that's often not the case, every bloody swim with a couple of bulging/overflowing tesco bags full up with beer cans, Mc Donalds packaging, Indian, Chinese, Pizza boxes.

It then get's windy, starts raining and the sh1t get's blown all over the place.

It boils my pi$$!!

The pond I fish used to be over run with mice, millions of the blighters that would swarm out on a night and all around your bivvy and inside. Hanging a rubbish bag up a tree or bush was not guaranteed to stop them getting to it. How they found it and worked out to get at it boggles belief. Maybe they go up certain trees or bushes on a night looking for berries etc and just happen to find the rubbish bag.

One lad hung his brand new tackle bag up the bush, next morning they had eaten an hole in it.

Even slings and unhooking mats are not safe from being chewed when you hang them up to dry.

But thankfully, I do not know what has happened since 2019, but they seem to have vanished, lack of food, owls, mink etc, but you rarely see one.

Just thinking that would be a good name for a band....

I have a rubbish bag that is zipped away in a carry all. Would never think of hanging rubbish in a tree.
I've seen it before in other anglers swims and it looks a mess

There's a difference between plastic rubbish and human waste.

For me, just my opinion. Leaving **** and rubbish in plastic bags for days on end hanging in a tree looks bad.
The venue I currently fish and have done for 5 years do not allow it.

Tell you what ,I followed this car home tonight,the window opened,and a load of rubbish was thrown out..

No need for this,very disappointing, especially in one the country's most lovliest parts ...

Hanging rubbish in a tree does look awful.

I honestly think the putting rubbish in a bucket is the best way to deal with it. Sealed buckets shouldn't attract rats, and they stop the rubbish blowing away.

I confess to leaving something on the bank yesterday, Sky had a stuffed hoof which she chews, as I left I forgot to pick up the remains.

I generally take a heavy duty black rubbish bag for my rubbish any rubbish and litter in the swim when I arrive, as is often the case, goes in as does my rubbish through the session. Then, on leaving a thorough check around the area to make sure every scrap including line is picked up. To keep all forms of wildlife from scattering the contents I tie it as high off the ground as I can.
That is as good as it needs to be. If a minority are offended by my actions and values then so be it. I leave nothing behind but my footprints and take my litter and waste home for disposal. That's all people need to do to make fisheries cleaner places. We don't need a twee aesthetic discussion on design and placement of rubbish bags in feng shuei swims.

I'm against throwing garbage along the riverbank, and even more so in the water. Recently, I and a team of volunteers from a nearby county cleaned the lakeshore of trash. It took us 7 hours and a big container of 186needabin.com because we couldn't have done it without it. I've always wanted to know what people think about when they throw the trash into a river or lake, knowing what harm it does to nature. I am soo sorry that not all of us can realize this mistake and make at least a little effort to correct it. By doing such things, people devalue themselves, because the pollution of the planet affects people in the first place.

I fish park lakes in some tough areas ....

You can imagine some of the sights 😣

It's depressing at times . The most depressing littering is when you see small children with their parents, they throw rubbish and the parents say nothing .

I really question society at times whilst im watching the park people .

Was over a lake other day looking , and 2 cars raced in to car park chucked out all there crap parked up and went for weed jollies in wood, enyway I picked rubbish up put in bin and parking warden gave them both tickets for no parking ticket, ohh I was gutted thay got ticket

I've just come back from a session and had an absolute nightmare with rats. First night put my waste in a bucket as I usually do and it was chewed through come morning. Second night transferred it into a black bag a hung it out of sight. Third night they chewed through my cooler bag and eat the contents and pissed on the rest. I appreciate what some people are saying but hanging your rubbish is sometimes the only way. Preferably in a black bag and out of sight.

I despise seeing childeren littering with no repremand from their parents too.

Recently whilst out with the dog a horrid brat trotted all of the way across the lovely park field to the bushes I was walking past, flung a bottle in, before trotting back to her scummy parents. I took exception to this so shouted 'excuse me your daighter dropped her bottle' and launched it back in their direction. Absolutely **** myself as the half filled bottle rocketed off straight towards the back of the kids head, great sigh of relief as it grazed past her shoulder.

When I use to fish the river itchen in Southampton for a week at a time in the summer,I was on the golf course part bivvied up by path way and the amount of rubbish that was left by people sunbathing alone on the grass was disgusting yet bins every so often and picnic tables as well,it was everywhere.
Also saw a guy fishing the little rezzie by the same river and I was bivvied up there and you have to go past a bin in both directions well long story short his friends bought some lager down to him and left and I saw him down each can and chuck one can behind him and then the rest of the crunched up cans were stuffed in a hole in a tree,yet when he left he had to go past a bin and another on the car park.
Also another time was on the river again down bottom end by canoe club and a car pulled up on car park and they had a maccies and dumped rubbish on floor from their car window.
Always take my rubbish home or luckily enough out in a bin near any waters I fish which are public waters

One free lake I fish actually had a guy going round and he placed bin liners in most of the swims and puts the full ones by gate for bin men to collect all done off his own back as well.

One swim i cut last season in the park became known as the washing machine swim... yes you've guessed.

Also the car park is used regularly as tipping point for the waste from cannabis crops .

Not just a few bags but a long wheel base sprinter van load ! You can smell the stuff !

One park I fish in Birmingham has a little group of people that do that as well . The are swimming against the tide though as the next day it's filthy again.
