I think most are designed to come of when snagged. They shouldn't really loose them while playing a fish. Though it will happen from time to time. What about using captive back leads.

If and when I use backleads I use the NGT saucer backleads which have the s clips on them never lost one of them when playing a fish in

the fox ones came off just reeling in aswell as playing fish
tried the captive ones and they wouldnt come off probly cost me a couple of fish theses hadnt been used for couple of years may well of siffened up

I always found the captive leads benefitted from a
Iittle flick to free them
I use the mk1 version mainly but have a few of each

I've lost loads over the years because of crap design of the clip. I've been using Carter's Leads for a few years now, I've had a couple of different types of back lead off him and both are good. One is like a figure of 8 clip, the other is a weird shaped loop with an overlap. These don't come off your line. They're cheap too, as are his normal leads. He's on facebook.

I used to use the fox captive backleads but found sometimes they didn't come out the clip or when you struck it would come out the water and end up tangled around my other rod! I'm using rig marble free fall backleads now. Granted you may still lose a couple here and there but nowhere near as many as the s clip type.

i use saucer back leads and get clips from bank tackle have not lost any since using them, get leads off ebay.

Yes Solar ones are spot on, I use a 1/4oz bomb weight, only ones I've ever lost are ones I dropped in the lake!

Korda intelligent back leads for me 1/4 oz ones I've never lost one and always find they slide down the line nicely when I actually use them which isn't all the time but they are good
