Anyone use the thinking anglers C clips ? Wanted to find out the safe casting weight and distance if that's possible.
I use the odd 4oz at 120 yards max and didn't want to risk anyone's safety if there not suitable.

I wouldn't go for the “biggun” without pva'ing on the lead first
I think the heaviest is only rated at around 6lb bs

4oz lead about 80 yards tops. And get the odd one go astray with that aswell.

Just looking for a nice clean system away from heli safes. Lake I fish requires a no fixed approach unfortunately.

I used these a couple of years ago. I never actually had a lead come off on the cast, but I've got to admit my bottle went using them. I found myself not wanting to really wind up the casts just in case.
I was actually thinking of using them again for a specific water that I'm fishing in a couple of weeks as most of it is very close in stuff and I think it might be very weedy.

Don't fully understand sorry ? Ideally looking to keep a heli set up because most of the lake is like a football pitch.

That's my worry. The odd occasion I'd want to go 100 yards plus I couldn't risk it.

I was put off from using C clips when a mate of mine went for a big chuck and ended up injuring a horse with a 3, or a 4oz lead.
He said the clip just shattered like glass. Plus, the horse wasn't very happy either. It went nuts apparently

I was exactly the same as you, made my casting technique go all gammy as I was thinking too much about being smooth. Nice simple idea for fishing in weed close in though.

Bar heli safes is there another way in order to fish in this Manor safely ? I've use a simple clip and buffer / cover before on lakes where fixed leads are fine.
If not I'll just stick to the heli-safes I guess.

You hang the lead on a clip to take the strain on the cast and use a rotten bottom in case you get snagged.

Surely that's just being irresponsible? I mean would you try wang a 4 oz lead with a 6lb Mainline? Common sense has to prevail at some stage, it's a thin bit of plastic after all. If you need to go for it, pva tape holds it on or the helisafes are a good bit of kit.

Do you use the silicone sleeve they supply with the clip ?
I cast 3oz lead 70 yds ok 👍

Genuine question. Are some fisheries now regarding lead clips, in line set ups and helicopter rigs as fixed lead set ups.
I know some fisheries insist on the lead being dropped on the take which is a different situation.
I am very much against dropping the lead and anglers leaving huge amounts of lead in the environment. However why not use an in line drop off, lightly set clip or dumper clip or a heli with safety beads. (Not 100% confident in them but there's also helisafes) You can cast as hard as you like in safety and the rigs work reliably. In the case of the in line and rig clip set ups you will lose the lead every time. Problem solved.

I've never used them pal was more enquiring on how far can be cast safely with them. The other weekend I fished from 50 yards - 110 yards over the weekend and ideally like a heli system that isn't fixed and can cast the distance.
Also at less cost than the heli-safes , £6 for 2 is expensive. There very good mind

I use the original C-Clip from Enterprise (I believe they were the first) and use the heavier of the two clips they offer. I invariably fish paste on the lead and use a 2.5ox Fox Paste Bomb
Loaded with paste it weighs about 4-4.5 oz and though it is not the most aerodynamic casting weight, I can lob it about 80-90 yards. Not lost one on the cast in going on six years since I first started using them.

I've used the original Gardner equivalent, since they were released, in 6lb. Cast to 90 yards with a 4.5 oz lead, this is to a far margin ( fishing from one bank only) so no real risk if the lead does eject etc. As mentioned you do have to cast smoothly.....Conversely I flicked the rod tip to remove a tangle, bounced the lead and it ejected in the margin!!
I use a buffer bead to sleeve the leader ring, C clip and lead loop, doing so and using heli leads with a ring pushed flat to the lead rather than attaching the C clip to the lead ring, this allows you to use the lead ring to tie off with pva above buffer bead if needed.

Looks like my river set up that 👍🏻 Shame no ones come up with an even heavier version for longer casts or if there was enough room for 2 clips when needed.

Tie on a o ring onto the leader or a quick change gizmo then you can hover between the 2 heli set ups
Use the c clip to attach the lead and pva it on after
