I know camera phones are all the rage but I fancy a reasonable price compact camera with flip screen to take decent pics when on my own with a tripod, can anyone make a recommendation? Thank you

My Nikon d5600 dosnt allow me to use the flip screen on the timer setting 🙁 during self takes
Maybe I'm doing something wrong

All excellent. I have a 630, brilliant.
Had a 650 but sold for a profit.
the 620 is also very good but only a 2" screen, but still good enough for selfies.
Great battery life, great lens and so easy to use.

I have a Canon Powershot A640 here. I haven't used it for 8+ years. It's just been sat in the box. I'd need to check if it works (which I'd imagine it does).
I'm only a bit up the road. Would take £30 for it.

Yes it does but dosnt allow the flip screen to work during
Interval shot set up
I bought it thinking it would, lve looked through the settings
and still cannot get it to work
Apparently I can use it to line up the shot
Then activate the timer , then after each shot a preview will appear, which helps
but isn't perfect

Canon M50. I use one when I am not session fishing and using my 6DmkII. Great little camera - I have the Canon 32mm M series prime on it. Image quality is stunning. Also, it has Bluetooth, so perfect for self takes and no need to use an ancient intervalometer
As back -up, I got a manfroto smart phone clamp - my iPhone 12 Pro has three very decent lenses on it and whilst I still prefer a proper camera, blimey, this latest iPhone is damn good in that department.

I would second the sony alpha series, I use a a6100, pretty compact, reasonably priced lenses (for a prime 50mm atleast) and great photos.
Added bonus is that you can bluetooth/wifi activate the shutter and use your phone as an intervalometer via the app.

I use a Canon M50. Small, light and has lots of great features to help with self takes, like bluetooth to connect with the remote. I did use the standard kit lens, but have now got the 32mm prime they do for it. I can't believe how good the images are!

Looking for a new self take camera the Canon powershot a650 gets good reviews, also very cheap second hand ones about. Are they still good or are more recent versions in the powershot range better ?

They all do whats needed. I now only have a 630. There was no appreciable difference in pic quality but the 650 was a bit more bulky and also a bit heavier on the rechargeable batteries.
I mostly use my phone but will bother to get the camera out for something decent.
I still an air bulb release (camera bracket and bankstick adaptor) for the level of control, and without the need to be firing off automated shots and waking up the lake with flashes.

Decent enough.
I remember Ian Poole used to have a canon 620 as a backup to his dslr and he has had a few cover shots from the little cannon. Same quality (or above) on the others too.
