I know it's been done before but what is so good about these reels they look like a feeder reel
I think they wouldn't look right on a 12ft carp rod and the spool is so small I can't see how they would cast any distance and yet people have said there the best reel they have owned how would they compare with the emblem 45 qd ot feedback please

I assume you mean Castizm QD - best small 'big pit' reel there is end of and look about perfect on any 12ft rod, these reels aren't 'that' small. I have had mine since they came out - very light, excellent build, mag sealed of course, hell they don't even get nicked up from lying on the ground, so mine still look brand new and I have had zero issues too. Clutch is brilliant and easy to adjust, QD is excellent and very easy to engage in just half a turn. Retrieve is ultra smooth, size wise - they're perfect. Not too big and definitely not too small. I use them on my 12ft Free Spirit ES and they balance them perfectly and look just perfect. Casting wise, excellent again. Line lay isn't as good as say my Basia 45 SCW, but... line leaves the spool very smoothly and for fishing medium to long range, say 120 yards, they're perfect. Anything over that, you'd want a bigger reel, like I said, I use my Basias. In summary, the Castizm QD is almost the perfect carp reel - they are frankly awesome. Pity Daiwa have now discontinued them, but still a few on sale as stocks run down. It'll be a future classic - so hanging on to mine.

I have to agree with the post below, unfortunately I don't own these anymore but when I did I couldn't fault them at all.

Post 2 says it all. They do everything that a reel needs to do for fishing with lines up to 0.35 and distances up to 120 yards.
I think that they are overpriced but they are the perfect reels for my 12 foot mid range rods.

Have you seen one in real life as they defo dont look like a feeder reel. The spool is also the same diameter as the basia just not as long. They are the perfect size reel imo and look perfect on a 12 foot rod. If anything a normal big big looks wrong and to big. On the casting point, i put one of my castizms on my 12'6 3.25 hi s and one of my black technium mgs on another 12'6 3.25lb hi s and wacked a 3.5oz lead as far as i could and the castizm could cast just as far as the tech. In my opinion the castizm is the perfect uk carp reel. I dont like the new version mind, it looks terrible.

Think the new castizm feeder version you say is the same size. Total over kill and unbalanced on a modeen feeder rod. The usual ******** that you need a huge reel to cast any distance.

Never thought of retrieval rate which if your fishing a match would be pretty important as the quicker you get your bait back out the better. I personally couldnt think of any worse catching a fish every couple of minutes, must get boring as hell.

Lol really, think if match fishing with the frequency of casting I'd be broken after a couple of hours of casting accurately that far, I'd be seeing how many bounces on the surface I could achieve with the skimmers on retrieval. 😀

The new black and red version of the castizm is bloody horrible. The handle looks like its off a budget £50 reel.

Agreed, the new 'version' isn't great and the folding handle, whilst a nice idea, has gone a bit wrong. You can still buy brand new Castizm QD's, so get 'em while you can!

they should have released a bigger size version. would be immense.
I'm now using the emblem 35 SCW, great reel for the price and I love the solid airbail. not to mention 106cm retrieve. I find it odd some models have the thick bail and some the bog standard one..strange.

Sort of but not really. wouldn't of been difficult to increase size and keep exact same build quality and materials.
but comes down to money at end of day, probably too expensive to make now
