I'm looking to change baits from what I'm currently on to something new,
I normally buy in 50kg batches to get the price down, the lake that I fish I rarely use more than 500g per session so I would much prefer quality over quantity however I'm not after a bait all the costs have gone into advertising and packaging.
I'm after something with high quality ingredients, I'm not bothered about getting it for £6.50 kg, I just want a really good quality bait that I can apply over the next 2-3 years.
Another stipulation would be that the boilie had a decent liquid and hook bait range to complement it.
Please don't recommend bobs shed baits unless claims from Bob can be substantiated if you know what I mean. The bait needs to have a track record.
What's your recommendations guy

DNA baits do bundle deals too,I've moved over to them this year and I'm out now this minute fishing till Friday or Saturday(got here Monday)and I'm impressed with the quality of the boilies the way they crumble and impressed with the liquids and pop ups 10/10 overall

If you want absolute quality then I'd definitely say look at the smaller companies/rollers. They will most likely be either mixing the ingredients or even mixing and rolling themselves. Assuming you don't have the time to make your own. Check out.
The A Bait (Jason Ryder)
Scientific Baits (Dean Towey)
PureBait Concepts
Proper Carp Baits
For more mainstream the ABS HydroK takes some beating. Or Essential B5.
Going on out and out price the DNA S7 bundles are definitely worth a look.

Have never used either but the two companies that stand out to me are scientific baits and UCN. Both run by guys named Dean, which is just coincidence. The knowledge of these guys so impressed me.
You probably have more choice currently from Scientific Baits, listen to the Carp Cast Chronicles with Dean Towey, the owner and that might convince you.

Have a look at Dave Moore's baits that are available via Rollin Baits.

Essential baits B5 is worth considering. If you can buy in bulk it brings down costs considerably and is a bait you can have the utmost confidence in.

I'm very interested in the Trent baits fresh water shrimp, looks exactly what I'm after. What's the service like and the hookbaits? Are wafters and pop ups as they say? I've found other companies hookbaits are what let them down

The service is spot on mate. All there baits rolled fresh so you receive it the day after it's rolled. There hook baits are exactly what they say. I've done well on all there bait. The only one I've never used is liver specials. so I can't comment on that.

Mirror the comments on Trent Freshwater - great to deal with, delivered fresh, good bait (can only comment on the shrimp). Whilst I haven't used the pop ups (I hate pop up) the wafters do what they say on the tin. You can also gets glugs, sprays, pellet, paste, etc. to match the bait.

trent's shrimp is spot on, the wafters they do are pefect, they have nailed that mix . only thing to consider is it can take up to 10 days to arrive due to being rolled to order so don't get caught short!
A mate of mine has something to do with aqua bait's mixes, very good stuff also so I am told!

Trent's service is great mate, I've been using them for a few years now and wouldn't look to change.
Not used their wafters but their cork ball pop ups are absolutely brilliant, caught me loads of carp. I found the little 12 mm standard pop ups need a little help (i.e. foam or cork insert) to hold a size 4 ronnie or hinge up for 24 hrs+, but they don't half catch them.

only thing I would like to see is for them to do smaller sizes, 10 or 12mm. Think they only do 16's and 18's / 20's.
They do small dumbells I think, only thing lacking In their range imo.

Yeah, I agree with you mate. They got rid of the 12mm round, and replaced them with the 10mm bumbells. Why I'm not quite sure?

I imagine they were having issues rolling 12's so reduced the sausage size and make the 10mm dumbbells instead.

What's very interesting is how few people have recommended a major brand. DNA and baitworks get honourable mentions, but it's clear from this that a lot of time served carp anglers believe that if you want quality then you need to go down the smaller manufacturers/rollers route. If I were a major brand I'd be reading this with a bit of anxiety. When I first started carping, I was literally less than half the age I am now. We often bought stuff from Fred in a shed, we bought leads, we knew a guy who made spods, we bought bait etc. Even Aqua was a bit of a Fred in a shed when I bought my first mk1 dillo. The Dunstable carp conferences were all little hobby businesses on pasting tables. I really see with the rise of social media a resurgence in this part of the scene and I think it's a great thing and long may it continue. Especially when it comes to bait. Local lads buying from a local guy and really knowing and understanding what they are paying for a why it might be working. Move over Mainline.

I spoke to a mate of mine who rolled for a very successful bait company. The owner used to rip the labels off of the sacks so no one knew the recipe

Dont blame him to be honest. No doubt a few bait companys have been set up on the back of someone's else's hard work. I Believe Mark Bryant at bait works mixes his recipes himself then handing it to his staff to roll.

Lots of great bait companies, and this is a really interesting thread.
After going through the whole list so far I think I have got it now down to 3 although still need to speak with Scientific baits.
Either;
Trent baits
Aquatik
Aqua baits
all three tick my boxes it will probably just come down to the conversations I have with them now
thanks for all your recommendations lads
I never knew most of these companies, so its been a real eye opener with what's out there. Of course feel free to keep adding opinions I'm sure others will find this useful

Interesting it's mostly fishmeal recommended- thats my 'normal preference but currently plagued by big bream and seem to catch less of them on a nut or Birdfood bait. What are we having as the best of them?
