It was only because of the posting about buying tackle from China on Ebay etc that made me take notice of what has just happened to me a few minutes ago as usually I ignore what has happened as I can spot a scam but thought I better mention it as there does seem some uncertainty amongst people and they could get easily get scammed.
Today I received an email from DHL:-
"Dear Customer!
Your package will only be sent after payment of the shipping costs of $ 5.26.
The online payment link ensures your security:
Pay your fees now"
With a link attached and the email address originated from Czechoslovakia
Oddly enough, today I am expecting a delivery but it is coming by DPD but for a second or two did make me think that I have I been hit with some extra post Brexit costs etc, but my parcel was only an internal one and not from overseas which straight away indicated a scam.
So be aware and extra cautious. It is a known scam but it is the first of this kind that I have received.

I had this before Christmas, and nearly fell for it as I had so many parcels turning up. Like you mines from somewhere random where i knew i hadnt ordered from

Criminal scammers will use any opportunity. Brexit is the latest and greatest. Nobody is certain about VAT, duty, customs regs etc. Ideal opportunity.

I had similar before Xmas also from DHL
They wasn't asking for money but stated I had missed a parcel and to phone this particular number, as I was at home at the time I didn't miss a delivery

Until I read something on here I wasn't aware of extra fees to pay on imports.
Someone said it wasn't Brexit but coincided with the 1st Jan date.
I've not seen anything on the news, or had an email from anyone.
Why is this not bigger news

Agreed the DHL TNT type scams are nothing new. A quick hover over the URL will show it isn't right.
I'm just a bit baffled about the thread the other day about ebay fees and not getting any notifications/emails explaining the changes.

Here we go again, really confirms why I rarely post these days, it does make you wonder if its worth posting on the forum to try and help others when there are those who like to denounce everything as they have nothing better to do than have their voices heard. It might have been going on for years, and as I mentioned in my original posting, it is a known scam but a lot of people may not know about it.
Scammers will watch out for any opportunity to scam people especially when they are vulnerable during times of uncertainty and Brexit is the ideal opportunity. For example, do you see scammers trying to sell tickets for the Olympics and World Cup 3 years in advance?
My posting was to raise the issue to be more extra vigilant and cautious at this moment in time.

The biggest giveaway on your scam is the amount is in $ not £
I'm am pretty savvy when it comes to these scams but I have almost fallen foul of one or 2.
My mrs was going into one the other day because tsb were going to close our account so she was going to hit the link
I said
We don't have a tsb account lol
She just hits every link it drives me crazy
Last year she had her computer hijacked took me ages to sort it out

I'm beginning think your not very switched on, at the moment due to Brexit there is slight confusion on buying from overseas and what custom charges etc that we could be stung with. We know what Ebay is doing, hopefully that is, but, what about other purchases that we make with other methods ie, I have bought good in the UK through normal UK websites, to suddenly find out that when I get a confirmation email and when the item is going to be delivered etc, its coming from China, Thailand, Germany or some other country. And were their is confusion, and lack of information, that is where the scammers will be focussing and even trying to confuse people with Ebay purchases or any other purchases by sending out these random messages and hoping they get lucky by it coinciding with the recipient also about to receive a parcel and catch out the unwary.
Many years ago, I got stung with an unknown charge when I bought a camera from the US, out of the blue, I received an email with a customs declaration attached from DPD (I think) which, I thought had to be fake and part of a scam. After making enquiries, it turned out it was not a scam and I had to pay up.
Only just before Xmas I was buying a present for our lass and I got a good price on a UK website using a "co.uk" address. Before purchasing, I checked the company out and according to "Trustpilot" it was a scam site based in China and many people had been scammed.
As for the "Dollar" symbol, I have had a lot of emails over the years using the "dollar" symbol along with the Euro symbol and other currencies for legitimate purchases when buying from overseas a. So it is not a fool proof guarantee that it is a scam.
To confirm how much the dollar symbol is used, I have done a search through my emails, I got many hits regarding purchases from over the years. My latest ones was dated 03/11/2020, a confirmation and an invoice, they was for a replacement landing mesh, the item came from Tacklebox in Kent.

It was a very simple question meant to highlight that these scams are nothing new(as you've said yourself) and that they have sod all to do with Brexit and more to do with the people who fall for them. It sounds like you do all the relevant checks as I do so you don't get scammed which is fair play to you. Everyone should as let's be honest in this day and age everyone is aware of the amount of online scams,no? The thread title implies that it's some new scam when it's not at all, hence me asking you to explain it. Nothing more than that. So again, no need to throw your toys out of your pram, or make silly assumptions of someone's intelligence. It's wrong to do that and very presumptuous of you , and rest assured, a very wrong assumption.

If it was not for Covid it would be. Whichever side of the brexit decision you are on, it is a massive change. Much of the law regarding trade of all kinds has been written in the last 40 years to streamline the movement of goods, services and money across 28 countries and between 450,000,000 people. It is going to take long time and a lot of money and resources to resolve the issues and prices are going to go up.

I've been getting loads recently about my virus protection running from about 3 different firms. If there is a link, hover the mouse over it and in the bottom left of your browse the destination is shown. If it looks dodgy, delete it. I've had convincing looking e-mails supposed from my internet provider which is Virgin and the link went to a talktalk address!
Most villains these days don't rob banks, they simply empty the accounts of the vulnerable and trusting.

I am saying I would always check deeper if it contains a $ as most of them are scams
The only reason I could see a $ symbol being used on the tackle box is if you have set that up as the default

Buying over seas then yes I would expect to see it as you say
I used to buy lots from Canada and the states.
