Has anyone used a sim thats around 90 cm- to 100cm wide and recommend one ? cheers

I use one thats 183 x 51 x 3.8cm and the really great thing about it is it fits inside the raised edge and so cant move around and when you Pack up you dont even know its on there
AND you have perfect support only where you need it its designed for back packers that just lay it straight on the ground so you can imagine when it goes on top of a bed chair its perfect

I found you really DO get what you pay for when buying a sim as a lot of people have found out buying cheap ones
this comes with a 3 year warrantee LINKY POO

As already mentioned above the Mountain Equipment Helium 3.8 is the one you want. At that price it's a steal.

Cotswold often have sales but rarely include the Helium. On Black Friday 2019 I managed to get 20% off bringing it down to £40 inc P&P. That was a rare event though it could be ages before they do that again.

You don't see many that width mate. Most advertised as large are about 600mm wide. I have the Helium and the Vango trek 5. Which is listed on Cotswolds site. It's cheaper and slightly thicker and has a click on off valve. Which I prefer out of the two. And it's been good for a couple of years use.

Another SIM that got mentioned on here was one made by Andes.

You won't be disappointed,just don't over inflate it as it can make it uncomfortable.

Just bought the helium old geezer on your recommendation I've already been stung with a cheap version and all it did was keep getting pin ***** holes for some reason.
I take it I can leave the helium inside my sleep system and just deflate when packing away?
I definitely don't want to ruin another one

my biggest tip as been said dont over inflate it some people JUST dont get it ? follow the instructions
open the bed out open the valve IT WILL SELF INFLATE enough within 45 mins if you dont put anything on the bed

I would suggest you experiment indoors when you first get it
lay it on your bed with valve open for 45mins do valve up
THEN try and roll it up you will then realise just how much air has gone in it chuck it on a hard floor then lay down on it you will then see what a huge difference it can make

Yes but when I store it at home I keep I don't squeeze all the air out of it, I'm not sure if that's essential but it's what I do, I don't like the idea of it being squeezed tight for most of the time.

I use a thermorest verture , I have to inflate it myself but I prefer it
as it deflates very easily
Little bit expensive though, but worth it 👍🏻
Would it still qualify as a Self-Inflate-Mat ?

Wychwood Tactical X compact and sim is an excellent choice.
I am 6 foot tall and almost the same wide, weighing 15 stone.
As said before, a helium 3.8 mat on this bed is comfortable and still light

I use the Vango Comfort Grande, it's 7.5cm thick and very very comfortable, well worth a look at, it's around £50.

I have one from Decathlon £ 17.99: Quechua Forclaz 400 x
Can't say anything wrong about it and use it with a fitted sheet over it

At 61cms fits a 'Standard' bedchair perfectly (between the perimeter padding) and doesnt move / shift about when in use . . .I sleep on both my back and side.

I use it all year initially I bought it for warmth on my back

and was worried in the summer it would be sweaty and wet like the cheap ones but its brilliant and can be used all year

I have a thermarest 3/4 length and it's ideal.
Id say the 3/4 length is a better option as with a full length the areas of greater body mass will push the air down to the foot end and the air padding wont be as efficient.
The 3/4 sim cushions the shoulder and hip areas better, essential for side sleepers, and will also ensure the main body areas are better supported.

I have an Avid Benchmark X. In the interest of reducing weight and bulk, I'm considering removing the memory foam mattress and replacing with a SIM.
Sensible, effective?

Is a SIM only suitable for a Sleeping Bag on top?
Any thoughts on using one with a Bedchair Sleep System not having a Sleeping Bag but Duvet layers where you lay directly on top of the SIM?

No. I put my Thermarest between my Duralite and zipped on bag layer. Works perfectly.
I think that's what you're on about?

I have both the Helium 3.8 and Thermarest Trail Pro SIMS ... The thermarest is the better quality SIM with better specification but is more money

My Nash Indulgence doesn't have a zipped on bottom layer to lay on - just the mattress. They have a zip on top layer to lie under.

I was reading an article on self inflatable mats the other day and it said they should never be left rolled up and they should be kept inflated when not in use or it will damaged the foam cells and they wont self inflate properly if you keep them rolled up. It also said not to blow air into them as it causes bacteria to breed and also damage the foam cells. They suggested leaving them inflated under a bed or behind a wardrobe. Defeats the object of the self inflating aqua mat i just bought mind as i bought it as it was so compact. They never mention having to keep it inflated in the description so thats a bit of a con.

You are correct, storing them rolled up, will shorten the life of the mat.

Although i guess as its a gradual decline I haven't noticed.
