Evening All

Treated myself to a set of Harrison Torrix Rods over Xmas and was just debating whether to upgrade my old Chubb Spod and marker rods with the Torrix Spod and Marker rods. I am looking for peoples honest opinion on whether these rods are any good? Or should I look at a different set of Harrison's for the job

I use 2 torrix spods , 1 set up as a marker with depth increments whipped on. Both do the job required well

So you bought 2 Spod rods instead of a separate marker and separate Spod rod?

No unfortunately not. Have never used a marker rod while fishing. Sorry I can't be any more help.

Buy just the spod rod and use that for marker work and spodding.I prefer to use my spod rod to find features as it's stiffer than a marker rod and you can feel more of what the lead is moving over.

I've got a Torrix spod and marker rod. Bought them when I had a set of Torrix TE rods built. I don't do a lot of spodding or marker work, but I wish that I had the marker rod built on the spod blank instead.

Exactly this 👍 I do the same and much prefer the spod rod as a marker rod aswell

Save yourself some money and buy one spod rod and use it for both, big loop in the braid for swapping over instantly👍

Sorry to bring up an old post but I'm ordering some Torrix custom built rods in a month or so. I'll also be ordering a spod and marker rod. If you only use a spod rod for feeling the bottom, do you feel the lead down to guess the depth or is it a case of casting out to the same spot with a marker float to get an exact depth?

You can loop a marker float on easy enough if you want to.I do tend to just use a lead and have a rough guess on depth

Cheers Braders1978. Unfortunately my OCD wouldn't allow me to guess the depth (it would eat away at me not knowing, even if I was confident at getting it right most of the time 🤣 ).

So basically the tip, although stiffer on a spod rod, possibly registers indication better on the spod rod. If this is right then you guys have possibly saved me £300. 😁👍

Agree with braders i always used two spod rods as well.

The stiffer tip section transmits more of what is going on and what your lead is moving over.Its easy to put a marker float on using the loop system

If the spod rod is giving better transmission of what the lead is running over, then no need for two spod rods. As Braders1978 has said, I can just loop on a marker float, recast out to clipped distance aiming at the horizon marked area and get my depth. So no need for an extra rod.

What puzzles me is why do they make marker rods with softer tips?

I use a torrix spod for spod work. And torrix spod for marker work .where I have had 6 inch 1 and 2 foot increments whipped on the blank . Works for me

I do pretty much the same, but my spod and marker are custom made both on standard Harrison spod blanks not Torrix spod blanks. They are perfect for the job.

As other have said better with one or two spod rods to suit.

When I had my TE's built the rod builder recommended to just get one spod rod and use for both. It still works great for feature finding.

. . .whatever you do, go 13ft for a single S&M rod. Not Harrison admittedly but have recently acquired an FS 13ft S-Lite SPM rod (to replace my previous traditional spod & marker set ups) and its a different class altogether . . .far better spod rod and far better marker . . .chucks way further, finds features just as easily
