I have a set of scopes in 10 foot 3.5lb TC but still using 12 foot rods for spodding/marking. Anyone using the 4.5lb TC's can tell me if they are suitable for spodding/marking?

Before I sold my 10ft scopes, I was using the dwarf 4.5 tc for the very same thing.
I could spomb further with it than I could actually cast the scopes.
At £100 a lot cheaper too than the scope variant.

I second that, have been using these. Haven't needed to cast that far but definitely capable. Scope I'm sure would feel nicer, look nicer, match and have better bits on them but for a spod rod short range the dwarf does it fine for me

Cheers chaps. Just ordered a dwarf to use as a marker rod for now. Will buy another in a few months when its spod time!

What size spomb were you using? I have the large ones at the moment so would I need to drop a size or just fill less?

Bump, just an heads up on this. Looking for a 10 foot scope spod rod
I see they do a 4lb test, not bothered about the ops range. Do they do one with CG, cannot see one?
Also, anybody using the Sea type unlined guides with braid, any problems?

I expect you will get problems over time . . .which could prove expensive in terms of ring replacement etc. I use a 10' Freespirit CTX SPM rod (which is about 4lb TC) and prefer it to my 13' Freespirit SLite SPM which is an animal of a rod. . .both have lined Kigans ((or similar)

Its a retractable type I am after. I have used braid on some barbel rods with unlined eyes with no real bother, not sure about the quality of the guides on the scopes. To be fair, it will probably knacker them up longer term so it sounds like i need a retractable rod with CG unless any users know different
Edit - well, decided to have a look on the Nash site since I was struggling for info on the scopes. The CG versions they only do in two TC with 3 1/2 being the biggest. Unlined rings, they do a 4lb version that says OK for spodding, I’m assuming with braid!

Harrison do a 10' SPM Aviator 4lb tc - also with unlined rings so maybe there's something in what your saying . . they also do a 10' 'Telos' but only in 3.5 . . .and 50mm Kigan lined (random)

Worth checking out the Daiwa crosscast EXT spod with Zirconia ceramic guides or the Black widow EXT Alu oxide guides.
Only down side might be with handle length position to fit in rod sleeve/ holdall being different to your scopes ?

Thats the stainless frame, LS is their code for that 'light duty' thickness ceramic, if you look through the Daiwa pics theres a spec chart 'SG Zirconia', also for reference

I dont have the spod rod so no idea what thats like.
I have the 10 3.5 and for the price they're pretty good, ideally tip could be a bit more sensitive (single foot guides on the tip would have been preferred tbh), but the tip does bend right through even on small fish and cast stick/ small bags easily.
I think this is a fair assessment on carpology
