Good evening all

Just joined a new syndicate, and a lof of the swims have hard bases, conrete or wood, most Anglers use Pods. I have never used or owned a pod before, dont want to break the bank, and want something light and compact, what do people recomend

I use wychwood cross bars and wychwood slim buzz bars and a couple of stage stands atm and with those I can cover all options with 4 bank sticks
I have a water that can use all set ups depending what swim I fish

Jed sqr pod. Nice and light and quick to set up. you can use it as goal post set up too.

I just bought a jag black super compact mk2 expensive at around £390 but definitely worth it I've had a few different pods and this is so much better than any other I've used before

I would just get some stage stands for your stick and buzz bar set up.

Think you mean pods are for GODS......... I've got a Fox Stalker+ and it's fine, had it a few years, was about £75. Not sure if they make 'em anymore, but it looks very much like the FOX EOS one, but the Stalker+ has adjustable legs. Fox EOS one is only £55, and if you're on a platform, should be flat so non adjustable legs shouldn't be a problem.

I don't think you will get a bite less using stage stands or pods.

Pods are more versatile as you don't need to screw them down.

same here ive just bought the jag 316 ajustable compact pod love it work of art ,just sold a matrix patriot pod,
not in the same league,ive had singlez ,ect just my humble opinion

Completely agree mate wish I had took the plunch sooner I love mine lol

The only pod worthy is the world wide all else only manage half a job. Most pods from £50 upwards replace a goal post set up at best.

My mk1 fox Quattro is now coming into its 16th year and my old mans is older. Solid and reliable after having a sod pod which blew over if you farted near it.

Strange, I had the complete opposite! Had the Quattro turn over on takes where have never had the Super Sod Pod I bought back in the early 90's ever do that (I use it with the 4" uprights & triposts front & rear when it does get an airing).

Had a few setups in my time,.....but solar p1 pod takes some beating,👍

Also had a quatro get blown over in high wind, trouble with all light weight pods is they need pegging down especially if wind is side on.

Put that on a concrete base and a strong side wind will catch the rods. Op said fishing concrete base or wood but obviously wood can be screwed into for a fixing.

Just fill some sort of bag with some type of ballast to hold it down in strong winds, and voila, problem solved friendorino.

I've had the world wide blow over in extreme high winds. The newer solar ww has pegging points and they have had a pod anchor out for 20 years. Pods suffer this even used to use elastic bands and pegs on my gardner 3 decades ago.

As for concrete either a sandbag or wind break

I've personally gone through so many pods it's embarrassing, my favourite and current one is the cygnet quicklock pod as can just use the buzz bar set up or the pod depends on the peg I'm in and it wasn't overtly expensive

I've used a Cygnet Quicklock pod for the last 5 years or more. No complaints. Fairly light, stable, and a doddle to set up.
I see they have now launched a newer version with spring loaded legs. I don't know if this will be any better/quicker to set up, but I won't bother changing.... the original is good enough for me.

Sand bag or wind break, so you carry these when fishing, good luck putting your wind break up on the concrete base. My work van always has 18v hammer drill and 7mm masonry bit brown rawlplugs and and cup hooks so no problem fixing any pod.

I quite like then look of them to be fair. Strong as you like when mashing them into the ground and don't grizzle if I scratch them up.

The JAG gear looks brilliant and I'm sure functionally exceptional, but 450+ sheets is far too much wonga to lash out on rod rests in my book. Saying all that, we're all different, which is a good thing 👍

I've got the CB products pod and it's gone over more than once....my fantail is better.

Original Solar Sod Pod with the tri-posts front and rear weighs a ton and if that blows over then I would rather not be fishing.

Got to admit I thought the same about the jag pods mate but I treated myself in October to a jag pod yeah it's expensive but it really is a stunning bit of kit, I love mine but tbh if I didn't have a accident in October and saved a lot of money on a few trips I wouldn't of bought it I don't think, only reason I did was to stop the mrs wasting it on something around the house haha

I did think about getting one of Keith's kit, decided on the CB eventually. I do like Keith's gear 👍

I've not got concrete like OP has to contend with, though I've got some sketchey swims on my place. I pin my pod down via 2 carabineers and bivvy pegs, does the job 👌

I think the JAG ones are fantastic Rich plus it's made in the UK which is a huge bonus for me.

Here's the thing, my nut would be done in if I'd scratch it, which would be inevitable
