Has anyone got a set any good?they do both look the same just saber a bit cheaper...

I had the original Saber digital scales, small and spot on, fold out handes are good. Decided to get their new one's, not the T bar but folding handle ones. For the money I'd say spot on. Look good, just as easy to use as the the original ones.

Just watched his review. Personally think they look crap. Won't be getting rid of my dials anytime soon

Get some Reubens, not some crap made for peanuts and no doubt sourced from China.

Wouldn't touch either tbh just get yourself some reubens not any of these mate

As already a set of Reuben dial scales. Never having to worry about a flat battery and fully serviceable.

Avon or digital suitcase scales, all depends on what you want out of it. Personally I don't care for accuracy although both scales I've mentions are as good as you will get. Rubens really are to big for my type of pleasure fishing.

My new AVID scales are inaccurate :(

I caught a common from my club lake, weighed it (properly, after taring the sling) and got 37lb 14oz.
I was happy with that...but I decided to test the scales against my digital Korum and a brand new set of Reubens.

So I set my weigh tripod up, zeroed the AVID digitals and then loaded the weight sling until the scales read 37lb 14oz.

I then put the sling etc on the ground, swapped to my Korum digitals and weighed the sling/contents...I got 38lb 10oz

Swapped to my Reubens, weighed, 38lb 10oz
Back to AVID, 37lb 14oz!

So the AVID scales under weighed my fish by 12oz (38lb 10oz minus 37lb 14oz)

I never got my Fox digitals out for an extra comparison, but might when I have more time....

Not sure what to do now...but the AVIDs are no good to me if they are that far out, and ounce either side would be bearable but not 12oz

The same results have come up in various tests I've read about scales. The Avid scales tend to perform the worst out of all the options. The Reubens and Fox scales tend to score consistently well and appear to be very accurate so would stick to either of those. Very happy with my dial scales but been tempted by digital and would choose between Fox and Reubens from what I have seen

A similar story and process to Karl's,..but..

I bought some Ruben's,dial scales and found them completely inaccurate sent them back ,got a replacement ,same again,totally inaccurate..

I stayed with my old Avons after that..this was a good few years ago..

Recently, tried another set of Ruben's,the flyweight versions, these again gave a different weight on every reading..sent them back..

I don't bother now weighing carp anyway,but use a tiny set of Korums for perch fishing..they seem OK..

I smashed the face of my Reuben's and bought the wychwood T bar digis to replace while I sent them away. I then blanked for 9 months and didn't send the Reubens! Had a very nice fish (finally) and weighed on the Wychwoods, will have to check them for accuracy.

Assuming they are accurate they seem decent enough and I'm in no rush to go back to bulky dial scales

I've got a set of the Rubens dials for my session fishing I just find them too bulky for my short session bag so I bought some NGT (look same as the Saber one's to me) T bar one's tiny in comparison and light , I've weighed a few items around the home fishing bags etc on both sets and they seem pretty accurate to me

What were you comparing them too? You sure the other scales used werent out?

Just looked up servicing costs for reudens after reading this thread, its half the price of the scales, plus postage there. Assume the prts are all changed over to new like with dyson when you send stuff to them?

Compared to the dial Rubens, yes they could be out too but how far do you go

Well Heff,it was as I said a long time ago..my first set of Ruebens ,were the orange dial marines,bought and delivered from Leslie's of Luton..

I weighed a bag of sugar on my Avons ,they gave reading of 1kg,that's using a pre tare zeroed,weigh sling,they went 1kg..

Same process,on my friends Avons,similar weight 1kg,

Kitchen scales,zeroed, sugar was .. 1kg..

Same process,Ruebens completely inaccurate, on some readings as much as 8oz,out..

Process repeated,using two bags of sugar .same ,still innacurate

Sent em back to Leslie's,new set eventually came,

Same process,and lots of different, weights on two sets of avons and using some early digital scales I got lent,short story ,second set of Ruebens sent back,...money returned,and chap agreed at Leslie's,both sets were 'out'..

I got them for a French trip,on my families lakes/complex...I just borrowed my families in the end..

In a nutshell,I don't rate Ruebens,big,bulky potentially inaccurate,bouncy needle syndrome,held by the body syndrome, and ,no...!...overhyped, much better on the market today,I bet..

Fair enough. I have reuben digitals and they have always been spot on.

Maybe just a bad batch, but once confidence is gone in something, its hard to get it back
