Going to mix this up this week, any tweaks or weight changes?

300g CEDE
90g necta blend/orlux
90g lamlac
90g semo
90g maize meal or supagold 60
20g brewers yeast

240ml egg
condensed milk flavouring
maybe some CSL but ive never used it before so opinions please.

looking for something more suited to cold water, im hoping the bird food gives that course texture to allow water to flow through the bait.

Personally I'd ditch the flavour and add a spice mix instead

Add 1ml of iso eugenol to 3ml of condensed milk flavour and add 50gms of a tandoori spice mix... No idea why they combine so well but they do....

Odd quantities, I have to think in % so needed to convert that The yeast is quite low (3%), I would drop the Cede a little and up the yeast to 5%.

CSL was great, been around for years but does change from batch to batch and went through a big change 15'ish years ago when the main supplier shut down. The stuff you get now is just OK not great IMHO. I still use it but I am tweaking my mix for various reasons (one of the key liquids is not longer available) and I am thinking of changing the CSL for Hydro Wheat (or another Hydro). If this is a new bait for you then maybe try the hydro route.

Like has already been said I would not worry to much about the flavour and get some natural attraction in there in the form of spices (dry and liquid in the form of EO and/or oleoresins).

Finally add 10ml/kg of Celmanax

i always mix in 500g dry batches, just personal preference as my mixer doesn't like 1kg+ pastes ill try the spices, a bun spice mix sounds good.
will the hydro be more stable in the finished bait and improve consistency?

From what I have read and been told hydros are more consistent but I have little experience of them so can't tell you if that is true or not! Ask me in a few years time

ill have a look into it.
i wanted to achieve a more pleasant smelling bait as the fishmeal im rolling at the moment absolutely stinks but all i really care about are the results, im really happy with my fishmeal but i want to make something a bit more cold water friendly.

In my opinion the eggfood will indeed allow the bait to wash out its attractors more quickly , but you don't have the best attractors in the mix to wash out .
I'd be getting rid of the lamlac, replace it with Acid + Rennet as it's much more attractive , not too pricey either on certain websites , I'd also reduce the cede and include some pea protein .
Horses for courses though I suppose , my winter mix is very attractive but quite pricey as it's high in protein but that's ok for me as I won't be using large quantities , everyone's mixes and ideas are different.
As for hydros there are some superb ones out there now , along with liquid foods they are in every bait I make , I wouldn't make a bait without at least 50ml per kg in there , I do go a lot higher if the mix can take it .

thanks for this input, my fishmeal has 50ml or krill hydro and salmon oil so this backs up my theory on my fishmeal bait, it contains nectablend so it has a lovely coarse texture to allow leakage. i left a few in a big bowl of water for a couple of hours and a lovely haze of attraction leaked off, i know its different in a lake due to pressure etc but it still filled me with confidence.

i will have a look at including acid rennet and boosting the attraction package.
might me that i test it over the next few months and start using it properly next year.

" Finally add 10ml/kg of Celmanax "

Interesting! What would Cellmanax add to the bait that the yeast will not?

Celmanax is bioactive and it looks like it helps break down the carbs in the bait. I am not sure it is attractive to carp in itself (which some yeasts are). My use is limited at the moment but plan to use more going forward and once my bait works with it try it without and see if it makes a difference

One wonders how the original frozen Richworth Tutti Frutti outfished all other winter baits by a long shot without all these bits of crap being included.

" bits of crap being included"

You can actually make a good bait better
Was Richworths original TF basemix a 50/50 or 3-way split ?

I did better on other baits at the time

Was the original really that good or rose tinted spectacles

If it was so good how come its not so good now? Maybe because the carp have got used to a better diet

''bits of crap''

yeah including ingredients that actually give a rounded diet for mr carp never sounded like a good idea to me either.

ICI's Pruteen pig feed. Which was discontinued as the pigs didn't like the taste.

This is great advice 👍🏻 Although I like to use WPC80 and Calcium in winter / all year around and had great results in doing so.

A lot of people seem to miss the fact that the early very successful richworth baits were based on putreen and were freezer baits. Originally 50/50 meant 50% protein 50% none protein and not 50% semolina and 50% soya that people understand today.

Since the production of putreen ceased have there baits ever been as successful and have there shelf life baits ever been as effective as the frozen... No they haven't even though later frozen tutti baits were still reasonably effective... And that comment comes from a confirmed flavour user.

With the richworths, the clever use of sweetners took away any bitterness from either the high flavour levels used, and the Pruteen.

So was it just a taste thing with the sweeteners, or a nutritious thing for either protein, or carbs, or a clever combo of all three ?

I would also add that richworth tutti were once effective in winter due to the fact that bright orange baits hadn't been done and that carp were under less pressure. Nowadays bright things are often the kiss of death (think bright hookbaits at this stage in the year). I never use sweet corn (I know I'm mental right) because every other angler piles it in. But I do find I'm getting more bites and faster bites by avoiding colour! By the spring it may well have all changed Again

Maybe part of it was:
Single cell proteins + loads of sugars + no preservatives = bacteria party

They did ‘liven up' in the right conditions, a few days in the polythene freezer bag, and go sticky or tacky
