I've not long bought an Avid Dual Layer HQ brolly system, my first shelter. I did lots of research, the pros and cons and in the end, plumped for the Avid simply because I liked it the most. I've Set it up three times in the garden and once on the bank. However, the build quality of it is appalling, so much so that the missus has had to sew two of the vapour shield toggles back on and two of the groundsheet clips have already come off. Some of the stitching looks like I've done it.
It's going back to the shop, and I'm getting either a replacement or a different make. I was thinking maybe the Fox Ultra. Having watched all the videos I can of both of the shelters, they're almost identical shelters, probably made in the same factory.
What has swayed me towards swapping to a Fox is the front extension that they do. It would mean I could take my dog with me. She wouldn't get in just the system alone, but with the extension, there'd be plenty of room for her. I know Fox brolly systems get a bad rep, but the Avid is so similar, they could be the same, so could have some of the same problems.

Just do yourself a favour and get a tempest brolly mate.

Wouldn't buy the ultra mine fell to pieces as did supa Brolly system, maybe wychwood I'd say as I've got a pioneer and that's got to be really looked after and can't see it lasting like my old one.

Yep, that's an option. But I like the brolly systems, and for the smaller river swims that I mainly fish they are better.
I'll have a look round again, I haven't been told the outcome of returning it yet so don't know what i'll be able to get in exchange.

Keep an eye on the wychwood tactical thread on here. They've just come into the country and look a good bit of kit for the money. Wychwood have a good track record for customer service so I hear.

Neither. Avid are a shocking company in my opinion. Fox shelters are also renowned for being hit and miss
I have a tempest and cant really fault it tbh. Others have mentioned the new Wychwood as well. This is likely to be built fairly well
Im not sure what cyprinus are churning out atm but their blatant rip offs are normally made ok

Used to have a Wychwood brolly and it was great. Now have a Tempest and also fantastic. Would highly recommend either. Seen way too many issues with Fox shelters to risk buying one of them, I know people who love them but know more who have had nightmares.

The wychwood tactical brolly maybe worth a look in or their Bivvy system.

It's looking increasingly like I'll have to bite the bullet and get a bivvy of some sort rather than a brolly system. A shame, because I really like the brolly systems.

I was a brolly system user for years, but got the nash hide xl last year, and tbh its quicker to put up, and better all round than any brolly system I've owned.
Whatever you choose, don't buy fox, the build quality has gone downhill fast.

Yes, they do look alright, and being tall, the XL would give me more headroom.
I've had a good Google about, but can't find anything that ticks all my boxes. Probably the nearest one is the Trakker SLX or the Fox R series XL. I like the idea of a full nylon inner, or at least a very large vapour shield. If the Titan T1 had a nylon inner rather than mesh, that would be high on the list.
I'll have to wait and see what the exchange model of the Avid brolly system is like before I make any other decisions.

The Avid ticked all the right boxes, but I'm a little put off by the fact it was so poorly made and it leaked second time out. I don't really want a bivvy but may have to. I can get a wrap then to be doubly water resistant.
Getting a river swim that you can get a bivvy in is an ask, but not impossible. A small enough shelter footprint, but big enough for me and my gear is what I wanted and the Avid brolly system was what I thought would be just that.

I suppose what I mean is that the Avid is the biggest brolly system I could find before going all out for a bivvy. The swim I fished last week on the Trent was just big enough to get the Avid on, where as a i would have not been able to fish in it with a bivvy. I like the style of a brolly shelter, but being 6'3" and 18 1/2st a bivvy would suit me better, but I'm not that keen on a bivvy. I'm not one to chop and change my gear, I like to get it right at the start and I look after my stuff. If my Avid had been perfect we wouldn't be having this discussion and I would have carried on. But I'm now in two minds whether to have another brolly system because of the problems I, and lots of other people seem to have had with them. I just thought the Avid would have been better made. That's all.

Been fortunate, probably. Have owned 2 Fox brollys, an Oval for over 10 years and an R Series Brolly System for 2 so far.
I am very hard on my gear, use if for overnight boat fishing etc.
They do what they say they will do, and are resilient.

I have the Cabrio Hybrid Brolly, you can use it with or without the extension, and without the front tension bars, just the side stormsticks. I've found it stable in some rough weather, plenty of room for me and my dog.

quite tempted on getting one myself nick, what bed chair are you using..I do prefer more space infront of me than behind. id only get the normal front panel aswell..

I use the JRC Levelbed, the normal version. I put it so the front of the bed is level with the zip on the extension, gives me room for my rucksack and food and bait bags behind the bed, then Plano tackle box in front as a bivvy table. Plenty of room for all the kit.
Sky has room to sleep in front of the bed, or outside.
The front panel has another tension bar, and easily zips off. I've only just put the door on in the past 2 trips, preferring the open front in better weather.
