Ok chaps ,
I buy my base mixes from Mainline and Boilie hub usually but would like to mix my own!
if money was no issue what would be the best base mix ?
( when i say" money was no issue " the ingredients need to be readily available so no moon dust or unicorn droppings )
Regards

Have looked at that but there seems to be some disagreement regarding the recipe and volumes.

Most expensive doesn't necessarily mean the best. It's all about the ratios of ingredients. Every on balance and there for a reason. Just chucking loads of ingredients together will just cost you money for no reason. The tropamino mix sold by BAF is a very good balanced mix available at a reasonable price. For a cheap mix that works google Pete b mix and see what it comes up with.

I'm sure you correct but I'm sure there are folk out there in carp land with what they think is the finest base mix with evidence to back it up . As I know very little about blending all these ingredients to make a top base mix I hoped others may share their knowledge so I can make and understand what why and how to assemble a quality mix . I have been steered toward Tim Richardson's book but at £110 you would need to pretty sure what you were buying was top end info . Perhaps I expect too much but is this not what a forum is for ? An exchange of knowledge .

Depends on what type of bait you want
fish meal
Milk
Bird seeds
And the controversial enzymes.....
Etc etc etc

You could Use the bm1 mix as a Starting point and work from there

I was thinking fish meal as that is what I'm using at the moment ( supplied by Mainline ) I'm looking for technical information to go with the mix so I can understand why . So for instance if pre digested fish meal is easier for Carp to assimilate why would you use a larger quantity of LT 94 that is less digestible?

Use the search, must be hundreds of base mix threads on here that you can read through.

Keep away from the tim Richardson stuff it will only fry your brain and you will only end up coming away more confussed than when you started. A good book which has a good chapter in it on basemix ingredients and percentages to use is mike willmotts carp life 1

I gave you two suggestions and others have mentioned the BM1 mix put together by Smurf which a lot of forum members use to good effect. What do you expect exactly, people just to give you their recipes? The Pete B mix I mentioned covers all the bases in terms of nutrition and attraction whilst still being a functional mix so it rolls well. That is what you are trying to achieve. 14 ingredients are not necessarily better than 5-6 if you put the right ones in at the right amounts. PB mix has been worked out to cover the carp's nutritional needs and has some soluble ingredients for attraction.. you're not using a fishmeal from mainline as they don't do one!

if you use more PDF it wont roll!
there has to be balance, binders - solubles need to balance to roll well, stay together in the pan and skin once dry.

First ignore Tim Richardson, way too overcomplicated and mostly nonsense
Secondly the "ultimate base mix" doesn't exist, and even if it did its no good if you don't put it in the right place
Thirdly your sarky tone isn't really the correct way to go about getting help with things on here.
You've had some good suggestions here, and they will all be better than the mainline stuff you've been using

Wish id of read that comment more closely. appalling attitude.
peters mix is pretty much guaranteed to catch a carp if its put in front of one and hes saying there is a lack of knowledge on here.

he would struggle to find better information for free on any forum id say.

That's interesting I was under the impression Cell, Hybrid and Activ8 had a fish meal base , I don't know why I thought that , are they a dairy base ?
As for the info offered I'm not being critical or difficult just trying to get as much info as possible before I spend a load of money . I've already found out I'm going in completely the wrong direction so all info is positive. I do appreciate all the assistance I am offered .

So for instance if pre digested fish meal is easier for Carp to assimilate why would you use a larger quantity of LT 94 that is less digestible?

Pre digested fish meal is very soluble and soluble ingredients tend to make a mix difficult to roll, so if you tried replacing the LT94 with pre digested it would not roll, it would be very soft and sticky.
The max soluble ingredients you can get away with would be 20% and that's pushing it depending on the other ingredients in the mix.

BM1 is very good though, so if you are new to making your own start with BM1 and go form there, but in all honesty there no need to tweak it.

Many of us have spent a lot of time and money trying to come up with the ultimate base mix, but believe me it probably does not exist, so my advice would be to use something that rolls well and is proved like BM1, then concentrate on watercraft and presentation

Post 3 referred to post 2 (about BM1) and said 'there seems to be some disagreement regarding the recipe and volumes'.

Having put BM1 together (and sold it commercially for several years prior to stopping selling bait) I don't really recall any such disagreement about it and would be genuinely interested if there was any BM1, or slight variations of it, have caught (and still does) literally thousands of carp

Cereals mainly. No one is arguing that Mainline baits don't work as they obviously do but even their so called fishmeal mixes, Activ 8 and Link have minimal fishmeal in them. Mainline are very clever and develop a concept for a bait and make that work (Activ 8 was based on a meat derived supplement- Cell on digestible sugars) rather than developing a basemix in the traditional sense like most companies do.

Ok I see your point , if I wanted to use a different base say bird food or milk protein are there recipes available on this forum ? As I have mentioned in a previous post I have no experience at all in assembling a mix so all this info is very helpful . I had made a poor assumption that Mainline bases I was using were fish meal based , now I discover they are not so it's reset time .

Perhaps I should have chosen my words more carefully , when I read through the posts was there not a discussion regarding weights and different ingredients. I think perhaps I have spent too much time reading all sorts of posts on different forums .

Over the last 3 years I have been using Hybrid base mix to very good effect , if I wanted to build a base mix with similar characteristic where would be a good place to start .
