Hello, been out of the loop for a while, I am looking to upgrade my reels. At the moment I have a pair of Shimano ST 10000 RB bait runners, and shortly have £250 to £3oo for new ones.
What would the great and good recommend I was looking at Shimano 14000 Speedmasters, cheers

Are you looking for baitrunners again? What sort of size? Big pits or smaller?
For big pits in your budget I'd strongly recommend the Penn Affinity 7000 LTD. I have some myself, and if you search the threads on the forum you'll see plenty of other rate them very highly too. Extremely good performance for the money

Agree with that, I switched from Shimano to Penns and very happy with them.

Another vote for the Penns - I was dubious as they felt a bit weighty compared to my 2 Basias but I hardly use the Basias now. Great for casting, fishing locked up and adjusting when playing a fish

Are the differences on the carbon version just cosmetic? I see you do get a spare spool

Can't say ive ever used a automatic bail arm closure for 30 years. Mitchell matches where the last, everything else even if they could I'd find it a major mistake using them as line tended to get caught up. Fair better to take a length of line off the spool and take control and manually close the bail arm and wind in under controlled conditions till the line was taught

Just bought a pair of THESE in the 5000 size for a small water 2 rod set up, I would compare them in size to say the Fox FX9 on the mini big pit end but more than adequate for casting long distance.

Aye pretty much, I like to try different reels out I've got Infinities and they are very similar looking, for the money these cost you get a fair bit of reel with some natty little features.

Must admit they look stonking for the money, might buy some!
Might wait for a longer term review though 
Take an all time classic and bullet proof reel design and tweak it, if it came anywhere near an infinity for that price it would be incredible for me!!!

The 5000 I have are what I would call a baby pit size comparable with the fox FX9 or the Shimano baby pit 5500 xtd, they are sound for the money only one spool but a nice alloy one with double line clips, one touch fold handle, bait runner which has a fair bit of adjustment as some I find can still be slack even when fully tightened the dra is not QD and has a real nice smooth tik when set right but can be locked up super tight as well for snag fishing or casting, there is the Mitchell MX8 full runner as well but it comes in a gun metal grey colour the 5000 model is 5 grams heavier with the two extra bearings it hasn't got the rosewood handle its a rubber one and I don't think it has the one touch folding handle .
Many many years ago probably about 20 years before Mitchell were bought out they moved into the carp market with a baitrunner reel along the lines of the old shimano big pit reel as in size and it was bomb proof it had the old 300 type body shape I had 4 of them that I stupidly let a mate have at mates rates I have googled and looked many times but cannot find an old second hand set my mate flogged them years ago for twice as much as I had off him, wish I could find a set again.

Just had a look at the sizes. 7000 holds 700mtrs. of 15 line

The 300's, 200's and 440A's were all top reels in their day so you could say they know quite a bit about reels
Cant complain about the price though, seem an absolute bargain in carp tax times!

Where I ordered mine from about the cheapest place TBF, I've only used them a few times up until now but have to say I like them a lot they are becoming a firm favourite.

Will do mate. Out the box they're very smooth, a bit heavier than I was ecpecting for a mini pit type reel, but will have to see how they feel on my 9' rods.
