I've been an ardent tourney 5000t user for many years now . I fancied a change from the ‘old coffee grinders' and was wondering what you guy's are currently using and recommend as I haven't looked at reels for many years . Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks .
5000t's 😁 I've got rid on 2 occasions and both times gone back to 5000t's

This is what I was afraid of . I just wish there was something I could do to stop the screeching . I'm pretty sure it's the two grommets on the spool lip but after cleaning and lubing they're good for a day then back to normal .

Penn affinity 8000's are solid and dependable. You'll even enjoy the modern slow oscillation and a better retrieve rate.
No need to replace parts that wear out either...

I've had tournies for over a decade and appreciate the grommets make a noise but I find and application of silicon oil like krystons greased lightening twice a year stops the squeal and prolongs the life of the grommets and spool ring.

If you're prepared to keep an eye on the line and keep it tight on the spool, just take the grommets off.
Or wear ear defenders?

Always used a bit of silicone oil now and again, if not a splash of water eases the pain 🙉
Do the Western Development spools mean you don't need the rubber washer round the spool?

I have the Weston spools and you still need the grommets. I haven't found any difference noise wise between the original tournie spools and the Weston's .

I had a similar dilemma myself Last year I found some of the newer more modern reels to big. The tourney s are the perfect size I think. For now I've kept them but still looking.

I have then tourney 6k and Original ISOs I'd be hard pushed to get rid of either, both great reels and imho
There is nothing better.
Do get them serviced as it makes a good difference as for the noise silicon oil helps.

Keep them mate, you will struggle to find a replacement you like after so long.
I got rid of my infinity's after around 20 years, tried all sorts and finally settled on some old power Aeros.
Each to their own of course but all the new stuff I had just feels like cheap bling, ISOs, Tech mags etc.
Or buy some new tournies?
