Looking to switch over to bait works and I am looking for an all round year bait.
Anyone using Atlantic heat all year round?
Thanks in advance

Would use it all year round without a doubt great bait. I must admit I fished it 50/50 and found royal marine to fish better on a few lakes. But use with confidence

Intersting Jimbo with the AH - I never got into it and to be honest not that impressed. I found that when air dried properly and then used, they swell up and start to float up after 24hrs, this is telling me that there is a lot of crumb based product in the bait.
Cannot comment on RM as never used but I know Scotty rates it.

I use Both Atlantic Heat and Royal Marines, and for me the Royals give me considerably more runs than Atlantic heat.
Maybe as much as 6-1 ratio.
I'm on Shelf life's as i've tried both frozen and shelf and found no noticeable difference.
Been using Baitworks bait for ages now.

Thats great feedback, I got some of their samples of shel lifes and have to say was really impressed. Just was torn between what to go for. I have heard good things about the Royal Marine.
Cheers

Started using Atlantic heat this season on a new syndicate, caught really well so far impressed with it to be honest.
Delivery was in a couple of days too, just put another order in for royal marine this time and their site says due to demand it could take up to 10 days.

The AH is a decent enough bait in general but the quality of their balanced baits and cork dust pop ups is pretty poor.
The only other thing I'd say about Baitworks is that their rolling and QC isn't that great, far to many miss shapes and scrag ends in the bags for my liking.

So pleasing to read that comment. Around 18-24 months ago, the pop ups were fantastic, and also a reddy colour, however the brown batches since have been awful. I've contacted BW who don't agree, but did send me a booster liquid. The pop ups are so bad I'm considering changing bait after 4+ years on BW.
Great boilies, god awful pop ups.

I used Essential for 20 years and they were tip top

Baitworks have always got their pop ups wrong, which is surprising considering the quality of their boiled baits. The corkdust ones have always been rubbish, not that buoyant and smelling of soggy Cork within 24 hours. Their pop packs are not ideal as the paste they supply is standard paste, not hardened or sieved finely. They would be better off selling small bags of bespoke hardened, sieved hookbait basemix powder, with a small bottle of the liquids.

Another thing to remember is that the synthetic dye used in robin red is now banned by defra in the UK so robin red now has a different dye which has changed the colour of baits. DNA S7 is another example of this that bait isn't as red as it used to be anymore. A lot of robin red based baits wont look as red anymore

Found loads of pop ups hit and miss over the years especially if fishing chods. Cork balls and proper jobs are always reliable

I found that AH softened and opened up very quickly (a few hours and then could be taken apart by silver fish. I ended up using lots of oil and other liquids to toughen them up so they would last until bite time.
Their pop ups have never been buoyant enough. Especially as I never use a hook smaller than a size 4. I end up plugging mine with foam.
I do rate their liquids especially C-Stim.

That pretty much sums up their pop ups and waffters, didn't seem right from the off. Appears to be more cork than bait, dont smell or look like anything near the boilies.
I think I will sling the pots I've got as I've no confidence in any of their potted baits now.

TBH mate it was mostly down to the deals they do in January. I buy 100kg at a time so it was a lot of money saved.
That said I'd done my homework on the AH and it looked good and the company had a similar vibe to Essential and it seemed to perform as good based on reports etc and in appearance it wasn't a million miles from B5.
The potted baits are shocking and I'd say to anyone dont waste your money on those. The dip is far to thick and the Hot Oil is not worth it versus any other fish oil.
The C Stim powder and liquid seems ok as does the crustacean stuff, that said you can get very similar products from other companies.
The Scent from Heaven and Hell are what they are, they catch but they are not anything out of this world.
As I've already said there's a lot of misshapes and scraps in each 5kg bag I've opened, I've seen bait being made 1st hand so I know there is no need for this, I want round baits to stick etc not odds and ends, something i never experienced with my B5.
I guess you get what you pay for, pay a little more for the quality and consistency of B5.

It's a great bait, definitely one of the best available. I would use it with total confidence. Also the cork ball kits are spot on, as with another user below, I soak the cork all's in egg whites and this, along with a good air Dry produces perfect pop ups....that haven't yet needed meshing.
I agree the qc isn't amazing and you get a few misshapes and, yes, the cork dust pop ups do not inspire me with confidence but overall it is a very, very good bait.
It's taking a lot longer than 2 days to get orders at the moment though....they are manically busy.

In my opinion Essential is the best in the business. I have been using BW this season due to freezer and cost issues and whilst their shelf life boilies are better (softer) than essential their balanced dumbbells are a bit naff.
Why don't BW have 12mm boilies and popups available, anyone know?

That was my thought, 90% cork dust and 10% boilie mix, they look like those coconut covered cakes.

Sat in the bivvie right now, ( had the snooker and the Barca game on) looking at the pops and waffters, they look and smell rank, that's after I chucked a bit of booster on them.😟

There's no doubting that b5 is a great bait. I used it for quite a while and the quality of the boilies was never in question. However the pop ups are dreadful. They struggle to hold up any big hook rigs and they wash out so fast that I expect most of the time you are fishing with little more than a visual attractor. To give you an example, I fished a winter day session using the b5 Fluros. It was literally just 8am till 4pm. The water temp was freezing. When I brought in the rigs, both pop ups had absolutely zero smell, right through them. Ok so you could argue that's a good thing as they leaked out attraction. But if they can do this in eight hours in freezing water temps, good luck using them in summer for 24 hours. I strongly suggest your own cork balls if using b5 as the basemix is first rate.

The Black Snail is even worse. In this day and age they should be able to come up with something that's not dust or ball based, look at the quality of the other pops and waffters out there from certain hookbait specialists.

B5 has stood the test of time like few other baits, but I don't see many people using it at the moment, quite a few seem, in fact, to have switched to baitworks, for whatever reason.

Price.
Essential do take the piss a bit with the so called winterised version, no need for it in my opinion. It smacks of a marketing scam for orders at the most quiet part of the year whilst still keeping the big spring sales with a so called spring/summer/autumn bait.

Are you sure?
Look on the web around Christmas for posts about Baitworks sale, I think I paid 4.80 a KG whereas Essential will have you believe you can only use their offer on the winterised stuff till the end of March then they want you back for more once the suns out, plenty fall for it.
We dont get winters like we used to so it's not really relevant these days.
Buy B5 at the winterised offer, chuck the baits in a bucket and coat them in the dip and a touch of Salmon oil and vacuum pack them, good for 9 months of the year, leave a few KG uncoated if you're doing winter sessions or just leave the oil out.

Because I know the bait itself is ok, it's the pops, waffters and QC I question, the volume bought is irrelevant one pot or a hundred the potted baits are crap, 5kg or 100kg the QC is the same.
Without Covid the 100kg bought in December would of gone by now but luckily it will now take me till November/December so I will likely go back to Essential.
Theres also the way you use a bait in my view, it's not always about using it as the hook bait, that's why the Baitworks blurb about attracting snails etc was a big part of why I went with it.
Anyway buying a few KG to try out tells you nothing unless you're on a water rammed with starving fish, that's a day ticket, makes me itch just thinking about that
If you're fishing the total opposite then it's about ingredients, history, catch results, the sort if waters it does well on and the grapevine, you'll have a gut feeling for what works based on what you have used and what you know.

I have tried baitworks because I fell in that trap of a cheap deal. To be honest I will agree with other comments that the hookbaits were just useless and I ended up making my own. I would also say that my catch rates suffered so I gave the last few kg away. I think that many of those companies who charge 4/5 quid a kilo are very much the same and although I tried hard to like baitworks i just never felt confident using it and never had a bite over the winter. Never had a sniff on the scent from hell either despite having a friend who has done well on them.

Up until this thread, I don't think I had actually seen any negative comments concerning Baitworks.
I've never used them myself. But I do know someone who's catch rate has gone up since switching over to them a little while back.

Agreed, not a fan of pimping freebies.
I've used Alantic Heat for a good few years and rate it highly, I actually like the hard balanced baits, they arrive quite dry and not very appealing, however add a bit of Cstim and Scent from hell and a few weeks later the hook baits are ready to rock.
Agree on pop-ups they arent very buoyant, however I think the attractors are superb and I've caught a lot of fish on them. I drill them out and add a a bit of cork, jobs a Goodun.

Switched to baitworks this season (Atlantic Heat). Been more than happy so far. Bait has always been good quality, I usually get shelf life as it's easier for me to use/store etc.
Quite like the Hot Fish Oil and C Stim. Are they a ground breaking new product - not really. Elsewhere does a spicy oil and the C Stim reminds me of the old Mainline CSL.
Not tried the pop ups but have the wafters, seem fine to me.
Every pop up/wafter I've ever tried is different quality wise to the bottom baits - Sticky, CC Moore...no different. I give them a dose of the oil a few days before a session - the hookbait for me is about releasing attraction vs a providing a delicious snack.
Results wise - as good as anyone else on the lake I'm fishing.
Just about to order more

my experience with the wafters; I like to have the hook on the deck, a longish supple hair, KD style and the wafter floating above it. I set this up and tested it in my kitchen sink at home....perfect, bang on!! Went for a short day session with said rig, six hours later I wound it in and dropped it in the margin to check still ok; wafter was no longer buoyant and was sitting on the deck, next to the hook. Not the presentation I was after and disappointing after only six hours (or even less, depending on when it gave up the ghost before I reeled in!).I like the Atlantic heat itself however I just buy the base mix and roll myself so cannot comment on the rolled baits...I do like that it does not require eggs and can be mixed with water (or other liquids/ingredients more to the point!) I am confident in the bait but have had to make alternative arrangements for hook baits (work in progress)
