Hi, I'm looking at upgrading my alarms to a set of delkim's and was just after some wisdom from the forum .
Currently I have some cheap and cheerful Fox Micron MX+ alarms but I am starting to question whether delkim's would put more fish on the bank. For example on my last trip I was fishing semi slack helicopter rigs and i had single beeps on a few different occasions. At the time I didn't hit them and assumed this to be nuisance fish hitting the line but now i'm wondering if some of these are actually where I've been getting done and not realising.
From what I've seen of vidoes online it looks like a delkim would give more than a single beep due to the vibration. So I would get more feedback on the alarms, but would the delkim ralso help distinguish between a finicky take or a false beep? or would it all still sound the same?
I don't quite get is how this would work so you could get more sensitivity than a roller so you can pick up finicky takes where the fish doesn't take line, but not then also get plagued by a huge amount of false beeps at the same time from every other vibration
thanks

When you learn how to use them properly (unlike many who blame the alarms for 'wind bleeps "etc) then there really is no better alarm. They will take a bit of getting used to but we'll worth it

Without getting into a debate which alarm is best I can only speak from my experience.
I used Delks for well over 20 years and never did master the art of reducing the false bleeps, I just put up with them and got used to determining what was a fish and what wasn't.
I changed recently to a roller type of alarm and can honestly say I get less false bleeps and don't believe I had more success using Delks than the roller type .
I don't believe buying Delks will improve your catch rate at all, to answer your last question the Delks can be adjusted to be extremely sensitive but they can't distinguish between a roach touching the line or a wary old Carp mouthing the bait . It's my experience that if you hit every single bleep from your Delks you'd never have a rod in the water .
I should add I've never used the new model of Delks so they may be different !
It would appear from the theme of your post that you are trying to avoid getting done ,and feel upgrading your alarms will prevent that.
Well I do a lot of stalking and have watched hundreds of carp take a bait in very clear water. When they take a bait one of two things happen they either take the bait get hooked and swim out of the area giving you a positive indication, or they spit the bait back out giving either a single bleep but more often than not no indication at all.
Even if you hit that single bleep your too late, they spit the bait so fast it's often difficult to see.
The last scenario is where the carp takes the bait, is hooked but doesn't swim off, this is a very rare scenario from my observations , but it does happen once in a blue moon. However it happens so rarely it's not worth worrying about.
If you truly think you are being done on a regular basis I'd look at your rigs not the alarms, a simple blow back rig using a small piece of silicone on the shank of the hook will tell you if that bait has been blown out or not, if it's been blown out the silicone will be rammed back down near the eye every time, if it's still where you placed it opposite the bard then chances are you haven't been done at all.

Which I don't really understand. I'm on the tidal Trent now using TXI-D's, and they have far far more to cope with than fishing a lake. Tides, rising and falling water levels, varying flows, stuff getting caught on the line, wind (as the tips are in the air due to the flow). Yet I hardly get any false bleeps, but they're still sensitive enough to tell me when there's a Bream or Roach rattling on the end which isn't actually taking any line (tight line straight through to the lead).
They may not catch me any more Barbel directly, as tbh you don't even need an alarm with Barbel as the reel smoking as they rip line off is enough
But they do help prevent nuisance fish getting hung up all night without me knowing. Advantages on a lake though? They're capable of telling you more I suppose, but how many people hit single bleeps anyway unless you're watching the line at the tip and can see something happening? They're just nice to have.

That is a shame, always happy with Delkim the indicator system such as bobbins was the only failing imo, tended to use quiver locks so Delks where superb.

I have owned and used most alarms ever made
starting off with the Heron bite alarms that good old Richard Walker designed when they were released back in the day and IMHO the Delkin alarms are the best alarms on the planet bar none I know some people have said they have had problems with water but NOT ME EVER !
I now fish the Trent mostly and dont use the Delkims when using a river pod as the barbel takes are normally so ferocious that both the alarms go off and that annoys me of course using single sticks they are fine but I have just pointed out my one and only problem with them they are the most versatile adjustable alarms going

Apart from the rubbish receiver, I'm not getting into a slang match but I had 2 delkim TXI+ fail 3 days into a French trip due to water egress, the alarms were only 11 months old.
Too be fair to Delkim they were spot on and replaced them straight away I just lost all faith and sold them, if Delkim would have sorted the water ingress and receiver problems out I would have bought a set.

no we all have our opinions and experiences m8 ............ but just to balance
as far as water ingress I was fishing in France when the Typhoon came thru apart from all the trees that snapped and bivvies that were ripped apart
My AMIAUD PECHE Carpo stainless 4 rod pod complete with 4 rods and reels and Delkims was lifted high in the air and dumped into 12 feet of lake
it took around 30 mins to recover everything I took out the battery's dried them all with a towel put them back together and everything worked perfect for the next 2 weeks that we were there
and we had about 3 days of continuous rain in that time and my receivers on all the delk models I have owned have always been perfect too

Where I was fishing was heavily wooded and surround by bushes between my alarms and receiver even though it was around 3m away I couldn't get any indication on my receiver,
Since downgrading to a alarm set half the price I have no problems.
Your making out there's no issues with the Delkim TXI+ receiver when it's a known problem it's doesn't preform as good as it should.

Could it have been a bad battery in the receiver ?.

Maybe you have them set at a higher sensitivity than me, as no matter how ripping the takes I never have both alarms go off.
I do use a fairly heavy pod though (JRC Extreme TX) and set it up rock solid.

It quiet possibly could be a dodgy batch I had, seemed strange how both alarms and receiver played up or even down too user error on the receiver.
These new Delkims are still tempting me,has anyone had any issues of picking up other peoples Delkims on their receiver.I had that on my last set of them but im hoping that is no longer an issue being digital
Do the new delks have a different tone or flashing LEDS for drop backs?

Don't think so
It looks like I've unintentionally started quite a debate, but I think you guys have answered my question.
Great alarm if set up correctly, will help pick up kiting fish that don't take line, but won't help with my current single bleep issue as they won't react in a way that will distinguish between a subtle liner or a finiky take
Thanks all

Don't think Delkim will ever be able to differentiate dropback cos of the vibration sensor which unlike a roller doesn't have direction.
Just a guess.

Oh come on Gerry, the TXi+ Receiver has always had well documented interference and reception issues.....the new one is a vast improvement and showed just how poor the TXi+ was.
I too had a similar issue when I owned TXi's. Myself and 2 mates were on a holiday/social trip in the UK, all fishing the same area. We had set up a "base camp" in the middle to cook and socialise, no more than 40 yards away from the furthest set of rods. We were sat having tea one evening when i had a single beep on my receiver from a snyde rod about 30 yards away, in between us was a mound of earth a couple of metres high but no trees. I waited for further beeps, (none) and then decided to go and inspect. On reaching the rod about 2 minutes after the initial single beep it was in meltdown and still nothing from the receiver, fortunately i landed the fish.
After dealing with the fish i tweaked the alarm head in question and it registered straight away, I got my mate to go back to base camp and it picked up every single beep from the head. I then tested my other 3 heads which were in plain site from my main swim and the receiver initially picked up 2 of the 3 and then the third after switching it off, (the anti-theft didn't operate) and back on. All heads and the receiver had new batteries about 3 weeks prior.
For reception the TXI-D are very good, although i had other things i didn't like about them and moved to the Fox RX+.

It's not the tone it's the flashing of the LED when the line goes backwards I find really handy.
Steady LED line has been taken out, steady flashing means line is coming back towards you
I can tell you when the bobbin has lifted slightly and settled back to it's original position, that to my says 'liner' be prepared but no need to get out of bed.
Maybe for some that's of no use but for someone who has older eyes it's easier to see than an isotope in a bobbin

My thoughts and wants exactly. At night so easy so differentiate a liner from a take without even looking. The amount of times my mates have jumped out of their sleeping bag only to see their bobbin coming to rest back where it was. I find it so handy it's the 'must have' on any alarm for me
I like the Siren, tried them, good easy functions but couldn't handle not having a different drop back tone/LED, so back to Fox.

I wonder how many fish are missed because people think they know what's going on purely by the different tones, quite a few I reckon. Relying on that is bad angling imo

Its tells you more of what is going on in the lake, say I get three bleeps forward then two bleeps back I know my lead has been moved away from me.If this happens I have probably been done,I dont rely on drop back differential to determine whether I lift into a fish or not.The wolf alarms are going to be very interesting with vibro, wheel and drop back tone

If you are happy then why would you mate? I'll never go away from delks as my main alarms tbh, I do have a set of ava's which dalectronics made remote for me, but that's because I wanted a set as a kid and never got to buy them. Total waste of money, not particularly good as they are roller buzzers, but they look nice lol

Well it can't be that well known cos I've had at least four sets of delks going back many years and I've never experienced that. Neither have any of my mates who've also used them for years. One of my waters is practically all snag fishing. Bow string tight lines. Light bobbins. Every take is a drop back. Never once not registered

If you out them on local then they shouldn't pick others alarms up. I'm sat now withing 200 yards of 3 other sets and as we all have the on local it's fine, I did have mine on distant but got the warning where it double buzzes and all the lights flash twice to tell me there was chance of interference so switched to local and no bother. Besides, you will get faults with any item which is mass produced, and as you say their customer service is brilliant, unlike the company which makes your current alarms!

How do you know they have registered them all!!!!
Edit,
I remember this 20 odd years ago when my mate had a set of delks and I bought a set of original Rx's.
We proved unequivocally that the rx in vibration mode registered more beeps per metre than a delk. We also proved that the deakin registered no beeps on a drop back when drawing the line back from past the rod tip.
Tell ya what though the good old RX registered it though on vibration mode.
A very well respected NW angler alerted me to the slow dropback failings on a delkim years before as he watched a slow dropkick on a lake in winter and hit the rod before the bobbin hit the deck and had a fish on. The delkim never made a sound...

Exactly, and if people were prepared to listen to other peoples experiences with them then rather than cite 'user error' then that wouldnt add fuel to the fire either.
I actually bought a set as the anti theft capability really appealed because of where i was fishing. The problem was that sitting on the bank of a very expensive french trip and watching the tow of the stream that fed it sending the bobbin up and down (very slowly) with no indication whatsoever left me rather dissapointed to say the least. It certainly didn't feed me with much confidence for sleep time put it that way LOL
Ian - heres another Mystic Meg moment - most people rely on their buzzer for indication so, if you watch your bobbin all day to see exactly whats going on then i would question whether you would need a buzzer (of any description) at all...

Ian - heres another Mystic Meg moment - most people rely on their buzzer for indication so, if you watch your bobbin all day to see exactly whats going on then i would question whether you would need a buzzer (of any description) at all...

Get the new Delks, you won't be disappointed. There are a lot of settings on them which takes a bit of getting used to but once you have, you will be very pleased.
Like Ian has said, if you know how to use them (new and old versions) then there shouldn't be a problem.
I had the TXIs for years and no problem, I now have the new ones and couldn't be happier. They have registered all bites to perfection.
The debate could and will no doubt go on forever, take the plunge and buy them

That's one of the features I like about them the fact that you can set them to ignore 'bobbin creep' or slow movements such as wave motion etc
The ability to adjust sensitivity levels to ignore extremely slow (snails pace) line movement, is a feature that makes the Delkim particularly good in the wind, preventing false indications from wind gusts and “indicator creep”.
There is also an important phenomenon known as stiction or static friction, which can be defined as resistance to the start of movement, as opposed to simply friction, which is resistance to movement after motion has started. As stiction is overcome and the line starts to move, there is a short burst of vibrations that actually adds to the effectiveness of the Delkim vibration system and further ensures that no bites are missed.

But these "experiences" usually are user error! People blame them for wind bleeps, where that CAN be stopped when used properly, you say they don't record drop backs, well actually yes they do so again user error, maybe if people actually put a bit of effort in to learn how to use them then they wouldn't have the "problems" that they experience! They are the most versatile alarm on the planet when used properly, and you won't tell me any different. I've used various roller buzzers, and they simply don't cut it for all circumstances. Admittedly for 99% of carp angling situations then pretty much anything will do, but you go and use rollers for something like predator fishing and see how that goes for you in the long term....

Thats wasn't a specific setting on mine. It did it on every single setting I adjusted across the whole range.
I actually had a take watching the bobbin without a single bleep as the line stopped moving and then dropped back real slow and the bobbin hit the deck with no sound. Picked to rod up and landed a 50lb+ mirror. In fact I had 2 takes in half an hour in the week and didn't get a beep out the buzzers once. One 50 and a 37 off Ribiere.
Sold them as soon as I got back.

You'd think so mate, but if that were the case then nobody would buy anything else. Once I know my job is secure after this covid nonsense I think I'll treat myself to a set of the new ones. Might even stretch to a set of the snag backs too

Bloody hell Ian, I am a HVAC Commissioning engineer by trade with 30plus years setting up Operating theatres, linacs, nuclear power plants, controls to fusion power plants etc yet I am too thick set up a bloody £150nicker alarm.
All the things I described happened across the entire range of the settings.
Plus and minus sensitivity and across the entire spectrum of the dial...which was the obvious thing to do when experiencing the bobbins going up and down with no beep. you know what though...nothing, diddly squat difference.
Of course it's not the delkims fault (and all the ones I have tried over the years) it user error!! FFS..
For the record a mate still has the original TXIs 2002 or 4 reciever IIRC and we proved the drop back phenomenon back then in 1988ish if the grey matter is working. The same thing happened in circa mid 2012 - 13 IIRC when I had the TXI plusses when they came out. Maybe earlier thinking about it. 🤷♂️🤷♂️
Anyway, please feel free to share the EXACT setting required to stop these dropbacks from not registering.

Well if some of us can make them work and you can't then God knows what you are up to, if it was the alarms fault then none of us would be able to get them working properly, wouldn't you agree?! Your job is irrelevant lol. I'm just a bloke who smashes buildings to bits for a living and I can work them. After all its basically a stylus like on an old vinyl record player that picks up vibration so if its going backwards or forwards it really doesn't make any difference, hence people winge about drop back differentiation which wouldn't be possible. It's not just about twiddling dials.... I actually had a drop back from a tiny cat yesterday and it registered perfectly, I was stood next to my rods watching it. Anyway, we clearly are going to have to agree to disagree as you won't change your mind and I certainly won't, so I'll stick with my delks and you stick with your att /fox or whatever it is you use and we can all just go and get our drop backs when they come....

Amen to that and the OP has got both sides so everyone is a winner and iam sure he will meke his dicision accordingly!!
PS it's Fox Rx i have - the old ones!!
Anyway, tight lines and really hope that you dont have any slack ones...

Nope, I never slack line mate!

I can assure you that the bite I had from a bream at 4am this morning was a drop back and that a Delkim TXi Plus woke me from my slumber from said drop back bream bite. Delkim sounds, look at bobbin, bobbin slackened off, lovely bream to reel in.
Not sure what more drop back information you need than a noise and a saggy bobbin?

I'm interested to know the secret of learning to use Delks correctly.
Surely it can't just be adjusting the sensitivity button down until false bleeps stop ?
Is it adding weight to the bobbin ? Or use of a line clip somewhere ?

- on the switch and 4 on the sensitivity does me for most situations. Adjusting the type/weight/line angle of the bobbin sorts the rest out. Never had a problem with false indication, unlike when I had ATTS that bleep as the line takes on water and sinks or picks up weed. They did my head in.

interesting how different people set them up my go to settings on lakes have always been
+ on the toggle and 3 on the dial never had a problem

The new TXI-D are superb Delkim have really listened to anglers with the previous problems and fetched out in my opinion the best all round alarm, I've never had issues with dropbacks on all the delks I've had, only problems with the old TXI was water ingress and poor range with receiver, I sold my RX+ due to the fact they would not pick up slow takes using braid when Pike fishing it would skip on the roller even tried with a baitrunner and still would not register, but apart from that the RX+ where superb if your just into carp and using mono both are superb options

I really do think that the correct bobbin set up is key. First off using the right bobbin set up in the wind should sort out false beeps whatever alarm. The line angle is also just as important as the weight. That's why I use the slimlites and line clips. Get all that sorted and you have a set up that can deal with anything.

I use the ES Duocarbs with Nitelites and also the line clips, weight can be added to the bobbin when needed. Only time I get a bleep is either fish, flotsam or ****ing Crayfish. I've never understood why people insist on using loose bobbins swinging all over the place in the wind then complain about false bleeps, that's why the Fox Swingers were/are so good.

I actually use hangers and still don't get wind bleeps. I've got some custom bodies made from stainless so they have the weight but very little surface area for the wind to catch them and they work a treat

I recently bought a set of second hand txi 3 alarms and receiver. 1st session hI had the heads silent and the receiver on....tested them before getting my head down for the night. Woke up in the morning to find one of the rods had a take and my line was about 50 yards in the opposite direction and the fish had gone. Sent the receiver back and they changed the exchange circuit...
which didn't fix the issue, I had to send all 3 transmitters back and had new aerials fitted. They now work a treat. Was a pain to be honest and I don't think ill over buy 2nd hand alarms again.
