I've had a top quality army surplus dpm jacket for years that was highly recommended on this or maybe the old cemex forum which was awesome. Totally waterproof, decent bit of warmth, nice high neck and peaked hood, packed away small - perfect for what I wanted.
Ended up losing it this weekend - gutted - and wondered if anyone had any links or recommendations for something similar, not looking for a cheap thin one but something with abit of weight and quality.
Think I paid about £100 for the one I lost.

Hava a look on military 1st , they do a good number of jackets...i have the helikon ecws goretex dpm jacket..it is great...and should tick all your boxes...

By the sounds of it you just want a gortex DPM Smock jacket, cost about £30 used from a guy called Aaron Mehan on Facebook, I bought one recently, great for the money, totally waterproof and wind proof, just have to wear something under it when it gets really cold

I got a French military one off eBay for £50 fully waterproof and sensibly sized and shaped. for fishing. Fine for summer, needs an under layer for cold weather, but has room for a layer underneath. Goretex and good sized / shaped hood. Not everything French is bad. Their cheese and carp are pretty good too.😊.

How waterproof have you found it? Rating doesn't seem that high (2,000mm I think) vs. a Gore-Tex type jacket

I found that jacket was awful, leaked like a sieve from new, got another same problem.....

Did a bit more reading, looks like the Helikon jacket has a 10,000mm rating but other versions of the jacket are lower. 10k is plenty for most fishing situations.

Looking for a jacket myself but can't work out what sizes are need a large so what size is that
US ecwcs goretex jacket mk1 is decent if you can find a lightly used or new one.
Unless you want to spend daft money just for a few extra pockets like poachers pockets and the like, a simple British Army GoreTex jacket from eBay has always been the way to go. Best tip is to buy a brand new one as anything second hand to one degree or another will have lost it's water repellent coating - which they all will do at some point along the way regardless of how expensive a jacket you buy.
As good as GoreTex is, once it looses it's repellent coating, just bin it and buy a new one. I've tried countless times to reproof them to little avail. I know there's companies out there that can sort them out, but for £50 top end or send it away for reproofing for £30? New jacket..

I'm with you the Dpm surplus is definitely the way to go, I've tried loads of other types and thy always disappoint. Can't go wrong with the surplus jacket, I also washed mine in Nicon wax and found that to reproduce mine well

Got to agree with post below ... I buggered about with various fishing branded coats (some of you may remember my lovely blue parka) before admitting defeat and getting a new British Army goretex coat for less than 40 quid. I got an XL long (which is perfect over my XL snugpak fortis winter coat) even if I look like a toddler with his dad's coat on during the summer. Unfortunately there were no DPM available when I bought mine, so I got 'desert camo' which is beige and white, but it keeps me just as dry

Even a second hand dpm surplus jacket is fine, I picked mine up for £30 from a local surplus store chucked it in the washing machine which most times fixed the waterproof-ness. If not throw it in with some nikwax tech wash to reproof it

HI ..US Army ECWS is an awesome jacket. Tennier Industries model is the one to have if possible...but there are a few copies rattling around. British DPM is another good buy as the German Flektarn jacket. Have a look on Surplus and Outdoors website.Find them spot on for availability and pricing
