Just wondering if any one uses a range master. Think golfers use them. If so are that worth using / having ? As I'm pretty crap at judgement of distance. Do anyone use them for fishing.

I play around 4 or 5 times a year, usually days out from work. Few of the lads I have played with use them, cracking bit of kit. Very accurate but you have to know your clubs.
As a rule, a very golfer who I used to work with gave me a very good tip. If your a decent player an 8 iron is the gauge for 150 yd. then plus or minus 10 yds either club up or down from the 8. If your and average golfer it's a 7 iron for 150 then plus or minus the 10 yds per club

Golf club and ball might be heavier to carry in the rod bag than a range finder
Would imagine you will have a long wait until the ball comes back in to hit it again to find the distance of the next snag lol

I once fished a lake in a it of a notorious area shall we say, at the side of it was a pitch and putt and mini driving range. Sat fishing like you do, dropped to sleep. Got woken up with a splash and a few rings in the water, mmmmm, fish?
Laid back in the char, another splash, strange that? Next one, bang, smack in front of me, looked to the side, two young uns smacking golf balls at me, little *******s

Chopper, I have been using one for a while now and think they are great. Especially useful when you see a fish show and you want to know what distance they are at as it can be extremely hard to tell with the naked eye. Also useful when dropping a rig from a boat and looking back to shore to know what distance you are at.

In that instance, no idea, I thought they were programmed to say 20,000 golf course and picked up on the pin distances automatically? No idea

How are you using it please? Does it not require a largish target something? Can you just point it at the ripples and get a range then?

I didn't think you get a reading on water ?
you can get a distance from one bank to another or to a snag Stuff like that

I sometimes bring mine fishing with me, particularly if I'm on a new water. I'm sure we have all been on lakes where people have ventured over half way a cross and I don't want to be one of them!
They are useful for Island distances and if you have Buoys on your lake but I wouldn't trust a reading from the water if you see some ripples or bubbles.
I could see it being beneficial for boat work / getting to spots easily by measuring to something on the bank on a certain line. Ive not done any boat work since owning one but I'm sure it would work.
I paid £100 for mine and it's as accurate as the Bushnells etc that some of the blokes I play with own, it just takes a little longer to zap a flag. It picks up large objects immediately.

there good for air rifles also, but theres to many carp aid items now adays , i have respect for anglers that fish the old ways with out drones and boats and swim mappers and range finders,

I have used a Leica laser range finder in the past to determine some distances, but did find my finder required a 'fixed' mount on longer distances, handheld simply was not steady enough.
I know from one swim at Suffolk Water Park is exactly 108metres to the far bank.
To be honest, I am still happy casting a marker float and getting close to that and knowing the rough distance I am fishing at.

They betters one lock on quick but they still have a tollerance of about 1m on the high end ones. Cheaper ones even so of you going to.use it to get a distance then wind that out on distance sticks bare it in mind.

If you're looking for a good value decent quality one I would recommend the Nikon version which I personally use for golf. I've compared it with the results of my friends expensive ones and it's always within a yard or 2.

From a boat looking towards your swim , you van normally fix on a largish target with ease. Even when used to look at an area of water I have found it reasonably accurate, although i have only used it when it is flat calm and at ranges of under 100 metres (my effective casting range).
