With measures to control this nasty illness really starting to ramp up. I was just thinking when all this craziness returns to normal how different the angling world might look.
I think we could see the loss of a lot of angling stores if we are required to have a prolonged shut down and a lot of the smaller cottage industry bait and tackle manufacturers might fall by the wayside.
For me peoples health must be the number one priority but I think on the other side we might see a very different hobby.

Hopefully the opposite effect takes place, more people in lockdown or not at work, the more people fishing and demand is increased for bait, tackle, etc. Bit of a glass half full look at it but I know my friends that are 'working from home' are planning 2/3 day sessions

They won't be if it ends up like it is in Spain and Italy. The police are stopping vehicles and issuing fines to people who are on the roads without good reason.
Having a car full of gear and saying you are popping down the lake for three days isn't gonna cut it as essential travel.

Not a chance, if we do go into lock down people will be more concerned about where their money is coming from, so the last thing they will be doing is spending money on tackle etc

TBH the last thing on my mind at the moment is fishing or anything to do with it. The only thing related to fishing I'll be doing is posting on forums or facey. I do worry a little about the trade in general, most firms / fisheries etc run on a low profit margin existing month to month in a lot of cases. The big boys will probably be fine. Hopefully those who rely on small but regular revenues will ride the storm out too.

Being as there's not even the resources for the police to stop all these un-taxed/MOT'd or insured vans roaming out streets in broad daylight nicking stuff I can't see how they will stop me from going fishing, plus we don't live in a police styled Country either, so I really can't see that happening..........................

i think everyone's scenario is going to be different depending on work and home life setups'
for whose who are ok money wise and going to a quiet lake direct from home there is no large risk but for those who maybe self employed or struggling will have other priorities
for me, its just about leaving the misses at home isolated, if I can twist her arm to going then all good but if not then its netflix and chill for the next however long
if you cannot get out or are stuck at home, use the time wisely, do the jobs which have never been done, get the garden sorted, sort rigs out etc etc, do something positive to keep yourself sane during this crazy period.

Spot on bud, coming in to spring there's plenty of gardening, spring cleaning and DIY to be done with the time spent away from work if you have to.

Totally agree lots of things to do atone the house, finally going to sort the lawn which I have been putting off for years 😀 fishing I would love to do but don't regard it as essential travel 🙀 I would rather spend the time with Mrs 😘 But don't tell her I typed that 😀

If you enjoy DIY get to B&Q and stock up on the stuff you'll need to get the jobs you've been putting off done.
If you hate DIY take any paint etc you have in the garage or shed to the dump.
I'm in lockdown in Italy and can't even get to anywhere that sells supplies. My kids' bedroom is going to have striped walls as I use up the bits and pieces I've found in the garage.

I work from home normally anyway so that side of things won't really effect me fortunately.
Issue I have is that I have a chronic illness which means I have a reduced immune system. This puts me at high risk according to the government and their recommendation is that I self isolate for the next 12 weeks...... It could be a very long year at this rate....

I tried getting decorators and carpenters to do work on my place, they both asked if I had been away lately, when I said yes Vietnam they both declined pricing the work...

I'll do it while I stay at yours for a month self isolating, £200 a day mates rate and you supply all meals, not a decorator or carpenter but sure I can do better than many that claim to be.

I've got tools as I used to fit kitchens and bathrooms, any painting I'm sure I'll get by with my dustpan brush.

Trying to keep a low profile, I'm 61 & being reminded by my younger "friends !!" I'm in a higher risk group I have decided to venture into my wife's car to clean the pigsty.
well after months ( if not years) I have finaly hoover'd polished inside my wife's car.
OMG shoes, umberellas, car park receipts & empty bottles of water.
The floor mats had more sand on them than Blackpool Beach.
When I said to her it was filthy, her reply was " it was my fault as I had not cleaned in in ages"
Is that a clear example of womens logic ?

The impact is starting to be felt. My son is an electrical engineer he's being seconded to the new Royal hospital Liverpool from Monday. Half finished because of crooked bosses making the main contractor go bust.
They're throwing money at it to get it functional, surprised it's taken this long

He's f***ed this up with the self employed this rookie Chancellor. 500,000 new claims for universal credit (the dole) in the last week ffs. Having to assign 10,000 employees to process the claims cause the systems swamped at a time like this. Ridiculous
