Just watching the latest Cypography and theres a shot of a chap's rod setup that must be as Carpy as you can get, I mean I've seen rod setups with folded handles before but this must be the ultimate. I know I would get in a right 2 and 8 if I had my rods like this

Hmmm it's definitely some way to being carpy. However from this picture we can't see if he is wearing a chunky knit, has a small dog with him or a very stained tea spoon.
Without this crucial evidence we I will have to reserve judgement

I can tell you from watching it, yes, he ticks nearly all of those boxes but just lets himself down by the distinct lack of Dog, though maybe the beard makes up for it
must try harder

Now I'm not a carp angler but ,I do catch a lot of carp by mistake and I have a small dog with me, does this make me a carp angler? ...awaiting to be destroyed!!!

Is any of the clothing you wear chunky knit?
Do you have any of those hipster earing things that open your lughole up large enough to pass a decent sized marker pen through it?
Have you ever washed your tea cup in lake water?

Do you only photograph yourself at night fishing urban environments?

I've got big hands and wouldn't be able to get to the middle rod. It's not carpy, it very, very posy.
Mugs posting pics eating their food on bucket lids ala Scott Lloyd pathetic

As the rods are in two inches of water you'd need to wear Vass waders in your sleeping bag and ensure that one of the braces was off your shoulder for the “in the water in waders” pic.
Added kudos for your chunky knit jumper cuffs to be in the water or even better just dipped in so the water trickles back off them into the water.

Wrong alarms, nevs would get the rods closer and slack lining without bobbins so a clued up wiley old carp will have wrapped him around a snag and thrown the hook before noddy got any indication.

See here's a man who understands the finer points of carpyness.
If you could combine all those elements with a shot of a Kelly kettle then you'd be in carpy nirvana

I'm ashamed to admit I'd not even considered the bobbins. Surely there should be a stone on the spool or homemade monkey climbers.

It's got bobbins by the looks of the angles the line runs at,they are probably in the water

Unless it's absolutely essential(I'd need a very good explanation as to why it's essential). Then it's just a posers paradise or more likely a fools paradise. Certainly not something i would ever do. My rods and set up were being insulted 40 years ago and i still don't care.

I remember fishing a big pit (sounds carpy already doesn't it) about 20 years ago before it hit the press....I think the phrase now is ‘off the radar'.
Anyway nobody was carping this place, despite the monster myths.
Only one guy even seemed to fish there and he was there a LOT. He had a shocking set up....single sticks and clearly pike fishing, judging by his drop-off indicators and reams of forceps.
You know where this is going don't you. Mr Piker was a carper. A very successful one who became a mate. The awful set up was just one of his fantastic blinds.

Your cannot be carpy without beard, beanie hat, carp dog, manky spoon etched kettle, carpy tattoos, drinking hot drink whilst clutching it with both hands, and calling other anglers fella these are rules.

And eating your dinner off of a bucket lid, only fishing urban venues, making sure all your photos of said urban venues are all long exposure night shots and you absolutely must either arrive at your venue on public transport and make a big deal of it, or have a fully tricked up VW T5 transporter as your fishing wagon. If at all possible, try to have matching T5s with your mates for ultracult status. I did say cult.

Hi All,
I had no idea what you were all on about with all this "carpy" stuff. The pic looks like an accident waiting to happen.
But I did look up "carpy" on the urban dictionary, no mention of beards, tattoos or chunky underpants.
But the description is interesting....

I don't have any social media accounts, so it really is game over.

If you don't listen to drum and bass on way to lake its game over you might as well turn back and forget it.
My personal hate is the khaki man bag, you're wearing cargo/combat trousers with numerous pockets how much do you need about your person.
When i get to lake keys, wallet, change all go in the same place and I even throw my mobile on my bed, and step a couple of yards away from it. I know totally out there but "STEP AWAY FROM SOCIAL MEDIA and OUTSIDE WORLD!"

The best, therefore probably most carpy anglers I've met over the years tended to have really shabby tackle and motors. Go back 30 years and they had it all, long unkempt hair, shaggy beard, roll up hanging out the corner of the mouth, beanie hat that never left their loaf, escort van with one hub cap missing, rolling baits on the bank. They were carpy before carpy was a thing - the true pioneers of carpiness.

Do not offend the old gods of the ancient magic. I have hand knitted wooly jumpers older than most carp anglers. They are above the mutterings and moans of mere mortals. It takes 20 years to mature a fishing sweater. As one young believer said "cor, it smells of grandad". Tread very carefully.
