Alright fellas. Just getting into carp fishing and looking for some advice on kit.
Gone and bought myself a couple of used 10ft 3lb tx2 rods. Looking for advice on what reels to pair them with.
Don't want anything to expensive as I don't know if I'm going to stick with it or weather I'll get the bug. With that in mind I'm looking for a decent set of reels that I can stick with as my skills improve. Don't want to buy cheap gear and then have to upgrade in 6 months.
Looking to fish local waters up to about 60 yards, carp up to around 15lb max with majority around 7-10lb. Probably go down the Pva bag route Until I know what I'm doing.
Bit of a minefield for a newbie all the reels on offer but I've been considering the fox fx9. Any good for this set up? Any other options?

I would pick up a pair of Shimano Baitrunners, 6000 or 8000's would go well with the rods. Lot's of choice of reels on the market, but Shimano is the original baitrunner and have been around for years.

The FX9's are decent reels mate, and will suit those rods and the distance you are fishing fine.
Another vote for fx9s Ive got them on my 12 ft rods and have not had a problem with them at all. Great line lay and very smooth
If you are just dipping your toe Pancake, I would imagine that a cheaper reel would suffice. Have a look at the Okuma Baitfeeders for example. With a 10' rod and only 60 yards of water, they'd give you good service for many seasons.

Aren't those rods a bit too much for carp that size? Would take the fun out of it for me tbh

I guess it would depend on how hard they scrap.
I've had 12 lb'ers that scrapped like mid 20's before.
But I get your drift

Agree, I've caught those as well. On the other hand, I've found them to be exceptional fish. The majority of 10 lb fish will give you a good scrap on a 12 ft, 2,25 or even less and it'll probably save you some hook pulls as well. My mate caught a 45 lb. common this year on a 10 ft. 2 lbs and the rod still had plenty of power left in it.
If you really want to get the bug, I would seriously consider lighter rods. But I guess it all depends on the person holding the rod.

I only use 11 footers and have paired them up with some Daiwa Emblem BR25A's.
Size wise, they are perfect.

Yes rods might be a bit much but my local water also has a syndicate with fish over 20lbs so was thinking ahead really and wanted a rod that I could stick with for bigger stuff. Plus I got them extremely cheap.
Wasn't originally going down the carp gear route, was just going to buy a feeder rod but my days of staring at floats and tips are over with the bad eyes

Went too the Manchester carp show at the weekend with the intention of getting a set of Vader x rods but as soon as I picked up the tx2 it just felt right.
Loved the tx-lite rods too but they just felt way too light.
Anyway bought a couple of fx9s off eBay.
Happy enough now got 2 rods 2 reels For under 150 so not slashed out too much if it's a passing fancy
