Not used fluro for ages but have just bought a spool of 20lb X-line for the spare spools due to so many venues banning braid.
I've just tied a few different knots in it and it's snapped under not a lot of pressure with every single one. Most have gone above the knot rather than at the knot itself
.
I know the Tackle Box tests rate it at 11 odd pound but a mate who's opinion I value swore it had never let him down.
Anyone else had issues with it??

I brought the 12lb version of this just like you for spare spools. I have not used it much but never had an issue with it, worth noting that the only knot I tied was an overhand loop knot.

I've used it for a while and never had an issue with it, always rated it as very good line, the Daiwa hyper sensor is also a very good flouro at a fraction of the price.

I've used the 20lb Xline for on and off (depending on the water/situation at the time) for probably over 10 years. I've found it to be totally bomb proof.
i only ever use a uni knot (or a uni nail knot) and havent ever had a problem with it. also used for shock leaders with no issues (using back to back uni knot).
Separate issue, does benefit from having a stretch and have found to improve with age (and last longer than mono).
Not an issue with the spool being incorrectly labelled? ie its actually a lower diameter than the 20lb? having said that i had a barbel rod spooled up with the same 12lb on the spool for years with no issue.

Try the palomar knot with loads of water/saliva and bed the knot down as close to the swivel/leader before tightening it. I've actually pulled for a break with the same line before and the 45lb leadcore snapped before the X line. Have faith in it mate it is a good product.

A pull and a tug mate... Literally tying it to a lead and pulling. With a straight pull it seems fine, the second you put any sudden force on it, snap.
Sure it will be fine... .37 does seem thin for what is supposed to be 20lb fluro. Hopefully, as a result it will behave a lot better than it used to.

Used quite a few different fluros and all break at below the stated bs on label. I would never use fluro under 17lb and better with 20lb.

I have had it break when using a grinner knot, I think I was using it in 18 or 20 breaking strain can't remember now. I just used to take extra time on my knots and plenty of saliva and give it a good test before casting out. Couldn't cope with the frap ups in the end and couldn't be bothered to put it under tension and give it a pull before casing so stopped using it. But it is unbeatable at close range in my opinion got to be either x line or tiger line for me
Used x line years ago and thought it was excellent.

I have used 17lb x line for the last ten years or so, in some demanding circumstances....big fish, weed, snags etc.
I swear by it. Always use a palomar knot.
Incidentally whilst it may break below the stated strain I have yet to snap the stuff in a fishing situation. It is tough line and stands up well to snags, weed, snails.......

Same here 17lb never broken it. And sometimes ibe fished with stuff thats been on the reel for 5 years.

Palomar knot is the way forward it never broke with a palomar knot but used to occasionally with a grinner

A friend of mine used the 20lb on Wraysbury back when it was a knarly water. Boat work. Big fish. Weed, snags and rocks. It was his success that persuaded me to use it. I only went for the 17lb so that I could cast the stuff. How far can I cast it? About as far as I can get bait out with the stick, 80 to 90 yards MAX. That has always been far enough for me!

If you pull from both ends, any mono, hooklink or fluoro carbon will break easier.

Sudden force/shock does seem to effect Fluorocarbon.
I have used X-line in 20lb and it was very robust and after stretching and occasional spin doctor behaved very well, no issues with it snapping, only used it up to 40 yards or so on Emblems.

According to the tacklebox tests, 20lb X line breaks at 12.63lb. Doesn't sounds bulletproof to me!

The Tackle Box only use grinner & knotless knots for the tests, neither of which is ideal for Fluorocarbon.

I've always used a blood knot for Fluro and landed fish to 62lb on it with no probs at all

Those who use it currently... tie it to a lead and give it a few sharp tugs, letting it go slack in between and I reckon it would do the same. Confident enough that it isn't going to happen in a fishing situation.

I had some in 17lb not long after it first came out, i did some bench tests the 17lb was braking around 12.5 lbs but not at the knot it was snapping in the middle of the sections i was testing.
It didn't let me down in any fishing situation as with a typical bent carp rod you would struggle to apply anywhere near that pressure.

I'm lucky in that I only read the tackle box test ratings after I had used the line for a while. I would have had serious reservations otherwise.

I've used 20lb X line for years now and always use a 4 turn blood knot for everything, swivels, leadcore, whatever.
Fantastic stuff and never let me down.
Casts like barbed wire though.
