yes this one is amazing no carp tax ! and much lighter I wear mine in bed best I have ever used takes about 10 days from here

Depends how bright you want. But if you want mega bright then check out what the beach fisherman use. Veals sea fishing website is a good starting point. However, I would endorse the previous poster. You want bright, but not so bright that planes try and land on your bivvy! Plus, it's good fishing etiquette not to upset other anglers by flashing a bright light all over the place.

Oldgeezer is spot on.
Last ages, light, and the red light is real helpful.
Can even recharge of your tech battery pack!!

I currently use a Petzl headtorch.
But i think i will take a look at the LEDLENSER range next time.
They're not cheap, but i've got a small ledlenser torch and it's excellent.

If you go for a led lenser go for a rechargeable model as the one I had ate batteries

I was fishing an 18 acre lake the other week and the people on the other bank were absolutely doing my tits in with ridiculously bright headtorches. They were like lighthouses, you could actually see the beams of light going into the sky and when they faced in my direction it was blinding. They were even using them to cast out, since when do you need to light up the whole lake to cast in the dark?
It's ridiculous, their night vision must have been completely ruined and it was massively annoying.

I completely agree I HAD 2 led lensers that I used to use on large French lakes to see where my bait boat was as I no longer fish in france and have sold all my bait boats
I got rid of them total pointless overkill for UK waters or rivers IMHO

In full agreement with the last two posts. Why does anybody need these ridiculously powerful lights for carp fishing, Beach fishing or any kind of fishing. Add lasers with ranges measured in kilometers to that, both in the hands of bored beered up numpties zapping swans, grebes and everything with feathers even in 12ft of water. Very dangerous for our sport.

Many a club book had a rule of "lights should not be visable in the next swim". These days some are visable in the next county...

My pet hate, bright lights, why do you need them?
I hate it when people cannot even get up for a whizz without putting there head torch on, or walk down to the bank to see there mate, why?????

If your fishing a rock mark at night, I would be inclined to use a brighter head torch for safety reasons - especially where if you put a foot wrong on slippery rocks, it could land you in the drink. Also, getting to and from some of these marks can be a mission in the day time, let alone in the dark. If you use your head torch to light up your rod tips, as I do, then if there's even a hint of rain in the air then you need a head torch to cut through the water droplets, rather than just reflect off them. Baiting up is much easier using the brighter setting too.
If your pumping or digging lug at night, a brighter head torch really helps.
However, I would be using as least bright as you can get away with under normal beach conditions and the bare minimum if trying to catch bass at night close in.
But as I said in my post, fishing etiquette demands respect for other anglers, and as pointed out by other posters, is very annoying to have someone opposite constantly lighting up the far bank like Blackpool. It seems that good fishing etiquette is on the wane these days. It would be nice if fishing etiquette was addressed in some of the vids put out by Korda and the like, seeing as these are watched by the Carp masses.

Don't think you can compare sea fishing to carping really chap, the far bank tends to be a bit further away in the sea

while i agree, he was replying to post 13 which mentioned beach fishing....
Blackpool illumination type torches really annoy me and being blinded by one is nasty. Whenever possible i will try not to use a torch

One that goes bright does double up as a handy extra light for night shots BTW.

I've been there too mate. Personally I try not to use a torch at all unless it's a pitch black night then it's a red light. Unless you are taking a trophy shot there's no need for bright lights. If you want to read drop the bivvy door down. Also helps keep the mossies out which are attracted to a white light, though I don't know why.

I'm glad you agree with me that ridiculously powerful lights are not needed for carp fishing. Do you agree with me about the lasers as well? I use a light, nearly everybody uses a light at times. My point is the massive over use of, I say it again, ridiculously powerful lights on and around carp fisheries. People want to use them elsewhere for their own purposes, fine. I was on a pretty large pit a few years ago and the guy opposite me had one powerful light strapped to his head.
It was so bright it light up my whole swim and I could read a book by it in inside my bivvy.
Needless to say, I didn't get much sleep that night.

I was fishing the river Trent it wasnt very wide maybe 100 yards tops at this bit
I was lucky as I was on a club stretch and we could park behind our swim and as normal the opposite bank was day ticket and no cars as they had to barrow from the carpark
and as normal they see you fishing and think must be good and plot up almost opposite ??? despite miles of empty bank !!!
well these 2 lads when it got dark switched silly bright high powered headlights that seemed 1 or the others was constantly on !
and they were so bright it was blinding me lighting up inside my bivvy after about 2 hours of it I shouted across to them asking them if they could put it on a lower setting or something but I just got a load of abuse
AND THEN !!! I suddenly realised I had my car behind me and it was on the flood bank just a bit above me I quickly started it up turned it round pointing at them stuck full beam on and left the engine ticking over it made them and their part of the bank like daylight !! after a couple of mins I switched the lights off they gave me all the verbal about swimming across blah blah
I simply said you want to keep your lights down then I wont start my car up and we both may stand more of a chance of catching something !!
luckily it worked and I think they blanked but went home in the morning

Yes I totally agree with you, my post was just pointing out that for all we know the OP might want a headtorch he can use for fishing and also potholing (for example), who knows, who cares, just makes me laugh when threads turn into a self righteous gang bang

I would love see some people walk to a lake I used to fish without a bright headtorch.Pitch black through loads of trees,just because the headtorch can be powerful does not mean you have to use it on its highest setting every time you turn it on.

This exactly, I have a couple of torches, some quite bright. 99% of the time I use on the lowest setting or red light, but particularly fishing rivers for barbel when I'm casting to a crease in the river, i'll light it up for the cast. I'm of the opinion fish in a colored river at depths of about 12-14 foot ain't going to give a sh1t!

As far as I can tell no one has had a go at the original poster so I can't see the problem with people pointing out that bright light can be a nuisance. Yes there are people who will use them sensibly but there are also other people who won't either because they are selfish or they just don't realise they are being a nuisance. For those who don't realise then we are doing them a favour
