Happened in the 20's as well. Match on the Trent was targeted by PETA, some misguided activist wanted to get out of the water in my peg, the wife told her to do one, or it would get messy. the kind Police Sargent suggested she let him do that for her as he wasn't bothered about getting wet!

A while now, but we used sensas stuff for years all over Europe , Spain ,Portugal ,Italy . 8-10 top kits every practice twice a day in silly heat and sun sometimes. not sure what 1lb elastic breaks at ,but prob anywhere from .8 -1mm sounds about right. I would be amazed you didn't get a couple of days out of it before it pinged off, and that due to over tension rather than perishing in the sun.
how much tension is it under, 8-10oz of lead, how far? as the more I think, you may be putting it under quite a bit . hollo will stretch further than solid per given length btw

Ideally ,we need to know what you need it for? can offer varying suggestions but some aren't applicable to carp specific fishing.

Old thread resurrection!

A few simple reasons why reels may have / or may not have an selective anti -reverse .
one is that when the drag applied by the reel spool is relatively light 6-8kg, they can fit a simple mechanical gubbins of a selective anti- reverse that can cope with the minimal forces applied . Certainly uk reels fall into that category
When you move in to the world of reels that require to handle heavy drag , most of the top end reels have permanent anti reverse as you may have at some stage have over 20kg or more of drag applied, and some manufacturers' feel more confident in a more robust system than a single lever that would be an on/off anti -reverse

These reels will normally cost more simply due the anti reverse been a lot more complicated to build/install so they can't afford to put in lower cost reels .

if anyone is interested of course!

Worth considering, letting any family you may have know the syptoms of Weils . if you were unlucky enough to catch it, you may not be in a position to explain to doctors what it is, and most doctors have normally never heard of it.
or you can carry a card in your wallet, advising that you work with/in around water and any flu like syptoms may be weils disease.

Dont forget, its not just while angling. Work parties, pre baiting, etc
Are you sure?
