Made this thread so everyone can share catch reports using the patshull park base mix. i have smashed my new water with it so far after 6 months blanking i introduced patshull park and i started catching straight away! and it was my first time i rolled baits!

No, just a young lad that has been asking for advice on bait making, taken that advice, made some bait, gone to a lake and had a result.
You are free to comment of course.

Well done that man. You listened to the advice given and it paid off for you. Did you go with their recommendation of squid/orange?

That's awesome! Well done! I've made a few test batches using the Patshull park mix and the winter version. Looking forward to trying them out. Question is what batch to choose!

I used it yonks ago. It was a good bait to be fair. I used QB's Squid and Plum flavors at very low levels - 1 - 2mm per kg if if remember correctly.

Havent had any results since that last session on the mix. Could be with it being winter. Ive been using 3 bait stringers with winter patshull park mix baits on there own without freebies put out around it. Might tweak my version of the recipe a bit and add a feeding stimulant of some kind. Anyone know of any good additives i could add to the mix. All im using is 30ml of QB liquid liver. And base mix and eggs. Been looking at mainline activ ades and multi stim liquids. Also been looking into ccmoore feedstim xp. Any other suggestons or guidance on what to do?
Cheers all!

For the way your fishing a good flavour will make a huge difference... As you're using quality baits try their tutti frutti while I've never used it a friend really rates it. Alternatively try 3ml each of Nash scopex and shellfish sense appeal to 6 eggs a great combination. Still keep the liquid liver.

Just because you don't catch every time it's not automatically down to your bait. This time of year results can be patchy anyway. Don't mess about too much, and concentrate on finding the fish and putting the bait where they are.

Hi HG,
If I were you, I would drop the liver and add 50mls of hydrolysed salmon extract from Bacarel, 50gms of whey protein hydrolysate from either My Protein or Bulk Powders when on discount and finally, 6gms of citric acid. I don't use flavours.

Hi Ken,
Everything I've read re the dose rate of citric acid in a standard 1kg dry mix has recommended 6gms per kg.
Apparently, for high attract hookbaits, up to 15gms per kg is ok.
Here's what Mysty M wrote on another thread, apparently from his own research.
Actual concentration of anhydrous citric acid depends on composition of the mix and the porosity ( leak rate) of the final boilie.
Figures given are % of final mix
High attract single hook bait mix 1.5 %
Normal base mix 0.5 % to 0.7 %
Anything approaching or over 1.5 % can adversely effect palatability.
Apparently, organic acid preference to fish species is specific and fixed, and in the case of carp is citric acid.
According to Kasumyan's taste sensitivity of classical taste substances, citric acid came out well on top in palatability index.

Mmmmm. Very interesting, BB. Just off to make a batch of paste for the warmer months...Will give it a try. (Cannot argue with MM, that's for sure!)

I had a lot of fish on the squid and orange about 25 years ago. I used them again last year and found then a little soft for my liking and the shelf life went green in the bag after 2 weeks sitting in the cupboard. I have not bothered with them since then, found a company in Bristol making something very similar that worked for my needs

Has malic acid been evaluated - the acid that gives sweets a sour tast (just that we use T's of it at work)
In reply to Post #25
Hi Mr Bean,
I've been led to believe that malic acid has little or no effect on carp chemoreception.

I've just realised now that I've completely misread your post about the 15gr/kg for high attract baits......
I thought it was per egg. Doh!
Oh well, least I only made a couple of 2 egg mixes! It did seem rather a lot to put in at the time, but in for a penny in for a pound.
That's what happens when your partially dyslexic!

15g per egg would be very zingy
But, in a hook bait would it be an investigate trigger for a single hook bait? Or too much?

Hi all,
It's not me enlightening you it is MM.
Read his posts on the Citric thread on page 14 and on the pH Trigger by Nash thread on page 23.
GB, 15gms of citric per egg equates to about 90gms per kg of mix, which is a dose rate of 9% rather than the rmaximum recommendation of 1-5% for high attract hookbaits.
I would imagine that if a carp picked that up it would spit it straight out.

I was previously using there liquid liver and it was decent.at least the fish thought so lol. only reason i switched to the krill was because my catch rate has gone down a bit so maybe making the change of liquids so that it matches the krill base mix works. who knows.

Just so ppl remember hg carper is a 15 yr old angler buying base mixes out of his pocket money and cannot afford to buy alsorts of flavours and addatives so could you try to recommend things that would be in his budget and not a little of this and a liitle of that and a splash of this cheers

I agree, liver is the most under rated additive about if you ask me. Certainly I have found it better than krill.

just read an interesting article by biosourcebaits on an anglers guide to amino acids. found it very helpful.he talks about how amino acids work, the different kinds and some amino acid additives to incorporate into your baits. such as CSL, liver powder, GLM powder, liquid liver and minamino. he also talked about applying them after the boiling process as the amino acids get stuck in the boilie after boiling and cant release. think i shall be applying some liquid liver and powdered liver and glm to my baits after boiling and see how i go.

Have you tried pouring a small amount of krill into a glass of water to check how easy it dissolves into the water. If it doesn't mix well then don't expect it to leak out the bait. Some krill liquid is very thick and doesn't dissolve without shaking or stirring

Nope just liquid krill.had a look at how it dispersed into the water and it just falls to the bottom in clumps. even after vigourous shaking.

Explains lack of leakage then....maybe source some more or combine/mix it with another liquid to increase solubility???
