I haven't yet seen any mention on here of this new spod/spomb, but saw them available and thought it was worth a punt having found fox/spomb/dot all having issues of differing sorts. So, I tried the Italian 'Spider' spod this weekend for the first time, and at last a device that works! Easy to load, flies well - far better than dot, opens 100% of the time even when it lands flat on the water i.e. not nose first, no fiddly clip for hemp and bits to stop from closing as it is held closed by magnets, and super easy retrieve, as good as dot, far better than spomb, and well, Fox, let's not go there.. Highly reccomended.. (No affiliation either btw..)

Not at all, as I said retrieve is very easy, only the dot compares to this one.

My mate uses these. He also rates them.
I fiddled with it and couldn't see it opening every time but in use it certainly does.

I thought the same Yonny, but in use so far (maybe 30 casts) every one opened on impact, you can actually hear it open.

I got mine off ebay Scar, arrived within a couple of days so assumed the seller is UK based, but don't know if any of the online shops will get them, hopefully they will.

This is easier than a dot to fill due to no mechanism to get jammed up and launches better, ie doesn't wobble.
simply better all round, shame as I've got 2 dots that are redundant now..

Looks like they have got their pricing right, so it perhaps won't be too much of an incentive for a bigger company to buy them out. I bought some dot spods from a Czech website at €9 a pop before Nash moved in.

Carpology have just done a review on their YouTube channel mate, it actually looks ridiculously good. Close two sides to scoop and fill one handed or close three fill it with a hand or spoon and completely fill it with no gaps. Looks incredible.

I've only used mine once but it is very good. Flies and retrieves well. opens every time BUT it does have to hit the water with force to open the magnets are they are fairly strong. They may get weaker the more it's used but I cant use it to drop bait tight to snags, etc like I used to with with my spomb at a couple of rod lengths with minimal disturbance.

Easy to load, cast well, opens every time, reels in well and robust too.
Not really used it to bait snags/marginal areas where your dunking or under arming.

Having used mine quite a lot since I started this post, I can class the spider as medium to long range, and requires the impact speed to open consistently , which it does 99.5% of the time anything over 13-14 wraps. For under this,I find the midi spomb preferable, especially when under arming to marginal spots ( or the fox one for this). The one thing with the spider is that it has not opened on launch once, in maybe over 1000 casts so far. Size is between midi and large spomb, probably closer to large.

Sure, the spring pushes a circular 'spreader ' that pops the spomb open upon imact, located in the tail end of the unit so does not get blocked with small particle bits etc.

Been asked about the size and volume of these a bit so thought the pics below might be of help.. As you can see the spider is smaller than a large spomb with a bit more internal volume than a midi, i.e. it is slightly larger diameter..

My spider spod was opening ok on impact at just over four wraps, overhead cast with micro pellet. Quite pleased with it. Micro pellet and hemp was constantly get caught under the lip of the Dot spod, and wouldn't close. Resulting in doing my head in.

I've sold. My spombs and the 2 dot spods I had, since using the spider. Simply, the best baiting tool I've used. Flies dead true. Opens every single time even when you hit the clip and lay it onto the surface, lightly.
Easy to load, good weight of bait, retrieves superbly. It's what all others will aspire too. Awesome bit of kit.

I found the spider very good for short/medium work but any distance it struggled. Could put the spombs/dot/fox alot further

See I'm the opposite I really don't like the spyder spod and don't even bother taking it now, much prefer the dot spod
