I'm sure the Ulez money will be used for road work and maintenance like road tax is - roads everywhere seem to be the worst they've ever been funny that...

When they finish building the new Thames tunnel at Silvertown to make sure people pay to use it they will start charging to use the Blackwall tunnel.
So all 3 Thames crossings will be chargeable

It's not the government who design and implement all these road and cycling schemes, it'sTfL and local councils. There's no joint strategy, they are all working independently.
One council's actions can affect another and there's nothing they can do about it.

Welcome to the result of 15 years of Austerity imposed by Central Government. Local Councils have so little funding they can't afford to repair the roads.

I'm sure that's part of the reason, though the roads where I live in the south east see twice as much traffic as they used to and the cost of repairs I'm sure has increased. As have staff costs in councils.
Clearly they are hoping that making it more expensive to drive will see less vehicles on the roads over time..then they'll have to find another tax

Grays and the surrounding areas are in a right mess, no thanks to Thurrock council and their dodgy dealings. as for the bridge it will now cost £12.50 more to cross due to ulez.
I live in Stanford le no hope and if I fancied a night out with the mrs for a curry or whatever in Upminster thats going to be £12.50 on top of the bill, or £25 quid on top if i go out past midnight. £25 quid every weekend picking my daughters up on a Friday and returning them on Sunday. both my daughters start driving this coming October,there is a ulez camera 500 yds from their front door,so every time they go out they will be charged(if they can get a driving lesson]. khan wants everyone on a bike walking or using buses.there is no such thing as a ulez complient car because its all going to be pay per mile next and 15 minute citys. ill have to start carrying sheets of plaster board on the tube or bus then, thats after I've put my prices up like all builders will be doing to cover the cost.khan hasn't really thought what damage he is going to do to a lot of people and small companys.

Could you not get the train to Upminster instead? I know C2C isn't great but it is a viable alternative if it's working.

I could get the train yes, which I probably would do if meeting up with mates and was having a few beers, but my point was why now should people have to pay just to pop into a local town to cover tfls fck up to do their shopping or get a haircut etc. it will now cost 12.50 for anyone who has to go to Upminster crematorium for a funeral or pay their respects to a passed family member or friend. one of my best mates has a farm in north ockendon and supplies hay to lots of the stables around this part, they now will have to go the long way round to collect it missing the ulez cameras (that will cut down emission not) or look elsewhere, also many of them have said its going to effect them when they need horse feed from manor farm shop.not to mention effecting manor farm shop.

I understand entirely - in the other thread I mentioned that I'd been stung £17.50 when I recently fished at Walthamstow, travelling in from Essex and only actually driving for about 15 minutes in the zone. I certainly felt robbed. Living there with a non-compliant vehicle is going to end up costing people a lot of money, which many simply don't have.

The expansion could actually help me.
I live just outside the present zone, when they expanded it last time I saw an increase in traffic as people drove around the outskirts rather than driving into it.
Even though I stand to gain I still think it's unfair on people on lower pay and a car for them is a necessity. You can't blame them if they give up work and go on the dole.
I could give a long list of how unfair this could be to various people but it's already out there.
It's all about money and Khan being a ****. I hope he goes.
