Which hook pattern would you say is the best hook to use for a standard no knot rig ? No shrink tube or kicker just hook and a supple braid. It’s for a very weedy lake so needs to be strong

I have to ask, why wouldn't you want to add a kicker if it could help hooking.

Basically I’m pulling it into a bag of pellet parachute rig style made with pva bags. When I do it with kickers they just fold over and bend they aren’t rigid enough. I’m fishing a very weedy lake and will be tying rigs to suit on the bank but won’t have a kettle with me for steaming shrink tube. So was just going to use a simple no knot. I don’t want to hook the bag on either I want the hook inside the bag so I’m 100% sure there are no hair tangles.

Big fan of the esp claw hammers in size 5, only hook pattern I use 👍

You would need a hook with a aggressive in turned eye especially with supple braid to get the desired angle

Any decent Wide Gape Hook.
I don't think any aggressive inturned eye \ curved piece of rubber\plastic on the end of a hook, aids in hooking a fish! Dream on...

Here my 2 cents

I would go with a wide gape hook pattern with in turned eye if you are using supple braid
If nuisances is not a problem i would use KD rig which will provide a very agressive angle without any kicker and extra unecessary piece of plastic

If KD is not your favorite, go for a basic knotless knot, you could add extra 2 turn under the hair to kick away your bait from the hook 😉

I’ve seen the Korda basix wide gape x which look good. They have a much more inturned eye than other wide gaped hooks which would could perfect without any shrink tubing

Your right about the angle, I still have some somewhere in m'y storage
However, the point is trash, you would better go on solid brand to get something sharp

Gardner cvr are a really aggressive pattern, no need for shrink tube a great with braided hook lengths. Just buy a smaller size then normal as they come up very large

A long shank. Personally i think those with an in turned eye are a bit too much, those you see in the shops are way too extreme. 10 degrees would be ok, straight is fine too, you can always use your pliers to get that 10 degree angle.

Gardner mugga for me, i use the rig you describe for almost all my fishing and it work well with the mugga, i haven't lose a carp for years with it due hookpull

It could but highly doubtful.
Is there a need to though nowadays with all the different manufacturers and patterns?
you could probably find one that is what you need.

Yes it will, there are so many patterns of hook out these days there really is no need to risk doing it

Imo a long shank hook with inturned eye...
Something like the esp trig hammer would be perfect 👌

I've been using the korda kranks just like this with no problems. Size 4 barbless

Mugga in a size 4, never had one fail and doesn’t need a kicker or tubing to be super effective and aggressive.

krank size 8 or 6, whip two turns down go under the hair another 3 or 4 turns ..jobs a good un

Mugga's are really good here, I've also done really well with the trighammers - never both with shrink tube with those on a german or coated braid based rig.

Personally, I think hook pattern doesn't have any bearing on what happens when using supple braid unless the braid itself is being tightened to the lead upon the fish moving away. If you're using stuff like crumb over a bed of bait, you're relying on that fish to move off and tighten the braid up, otherwise a motionless fish sucking and blowing on one spot will likely just blow it straight out. You're just praying the hook lands in a lip instead of blowing the hook out of the 15inch diameter mouth.

I try and use as stiff a braid or fluoro as possible in most situations. I often use short lengths of 20lb X Line with a wide gape over beds of maize, it hasn't done much harm. I don't like closing the gape too much as (in my eyes) it reduces the chance of a good hook hold far if the hook takes hold further back in the mouth.

Easy... esp trig hammer without a doubt
