Having a big problem with rats in my basement, and I don't know what to use for efficiently getting rid of them. I installed some traps, but they still appear from nowhere.
I don't want to use poisons because I have two dogs, so I don't want to harm them somehow. Any advice/recommendations?

You can use this AMZ BRAND mouse repellent spray. I had success with it. It's eco-friendly, made from plants, and has a peppermint fragrance. I applied it once a day near spots where I'd seen them and entrances, and within a week, they were gone. And don't worry about your dogs; I have a furry pal, too, and he was just fine with it.

I have these in my garage and they seem to keep the mice at bay, the best food ive found is boilies smeared in peanut butter

If rats are already in your basement god only knows where else they are, I'd be inclined to seek professional advice.

get yourself a couple of farm cats, that will soon sort it

I'd be trying to find out where they're getting in 1st, prevention is better than cure.
I'm with you re not poisoning. Re oils I believe they work very well, rats are very clean animals and dislike cleaning them off apparently. I'd just be aware essential oils can distress dogs if licked of paws or gotten on the nose.
Have you seen the bucket and roller trap, see YouTube. Its typically used with water in the bucket to drown them but you can use a deeper bucket without water, then you can release them somewhere away from your property. There's got to be more humane type traps on there

I've used the spray recommended here, and it worked. I never thought that some oils could deter rodents.

Definitely need to find where they are coming in from. My friend had rats in her flat and she was on the 1st floor! Found where they were getting in and had the hole sealed up.
