Struggling for bites when casting at fizzers and im wondering why? Quite clearly carp, I have seen them move off on numerous occasions.
I have them sheeting up right over me and sometimes get no indication whatsoever.
I have caught numerous carp from this lake, but not when casting at fizzers, or when they are sheeting up on the spot.
Any ideas? Im thinking that they are preoccupied on whatever naturals they are grubbing around for and my bait (typically a single or a bag) gets ignored.

I would define fizzers.
Generally i look for the bubbles moving along, this differentiates fish from gas bubbles for me. Small pin hole bubbles i find to be tench most of the time or gas. When carp are having it i find they are more like soapy washing up liquid bubbles that come up and in clouds lol.

They're probably on bloodworm. Try switching to a short 3-4" supple hooklink as they won't be moving much between feeding spots and use a small bottom bait or even a few maggots if nuisance fish aren't an issue.
I wouldn't waste money throwing bait at them either.

Exactly that. The gas bubbles are an easy spot, stationary, uniform and big bubbles. Tench are quite fine and smaller. The carp fizzers stand out a mile, big unequal clouds that seem to be directional.
Not tried maggots as there are stacks of tench, just using small solid bags with crumb, and when im not getting tenched out I sometimes catch a carp - but never from a fizzier!

They'll almost certainly be harvesting the bloodworm or something similar. If the spot is dirty (i.e. covered in that horrible dead/dying silk weed type stuff) it can render your rig useless v quickly as it all gets kicked-up and masks the hook as they grub around in it. Tricky to deal with tbh. If it's cleaner silt a sinking bait chucked right in it should be the one.
The very first thing I'd be trying is maggots. It's your best chance to compete with naturals. Better to get through a couple of tench to get to the carp than get no bite at all imo. If it is the carp nailing the naturals the tench would largely be pushed out anyway I reckon.

Silty with lots of chod lying around, some clearer spots however.
There's no real consistency tbh, the sheets appear here there and everywhere, similar sorts of areas but disappear as soon as they start, on the rare occasion a carp will stick its head out nearby the sheeting.

Had exactly the same problem all June, July, August on a water â tried every bait you can dream of to try and mimic what they were browsing on, but then I noticed is was very âSporadicâ browse on a small spot for 3-4 seconds then clear gills and then move, repeat............. in a totally random spot, I watched them from up Treeâs for months doing it.
They only had very limited patrol routes clear of heavy weed, but the bottom everywhere was covered with thick silk weed to varying depths, they could sense food items but struggled to find any.
I raked both weed and silt samples and riddled the lot to see what food items were actually present, next to nothing present, just odd small Snail and Bloodworm (I can do the same on another lake I fish and fill a bucket half full with Snails in just a few minutes!)
I did end up catching quite a few the last month using Hair Rigged Hemp on size 12 hooks, also Large Lob Worms (But was also plagued with Large Eels - eight in one night ,one of the smallest I bothered to weigh was 41/2lb) Mainly fished using tiny Lead, Helicopter rig combined Polaris type float, to make as little noise/splash as possible, freebie wise â anything more than a Egg Cup full and they would âSpookâ from the area.

It was very similar on Sans Keith, id be up and down that bank all day chasing the bubblers, I caught a few over my time there but man were they hard caught.
Similar on this lake, just far more chod, silt, weed, public, swans, dogs, swimmers (ill add more when I can remember more excuses).

If Iâd lived near the place and could have baited up a few marginal spots âLittle and oftenâ it would have been much easier, but then you had the curse of âElephantsâ on the bank, any noise, splashing of leads â or heaven forbid a Spod, or even someone standing in plain view â and that was it ruined for a good day or so, they was oh so spooky (And they wondered why they blanked for months on end) I would not fish it at weekends.
It got much harder as the weed started to die back and more open water was at their disposal.
