Not often i get impressed with rigs. But if you want a no nonsense hinged stiff rig with out all the metal work. Dave has come up with a simple way of attaching a coated material to a stiff filament. Before you say it " seen it all before " Yes there are other version out there i know. ButThis is bar far the easiest way of creating it. It's on the Gardner tackle social media pages. Best to give it a watch ( it ain't long ) seeing as we all suffer with attention span deficit syndrome these days. Far easier than me explaining it.

I had earlier replied on the Dave Lane Gardner fb post.

Why not tie a single overhand knot, pull tight and blob tag ends. Solid.
It's getting covered with putty anyway!

Saw that but don't like relying on that tiny little blob to hold the braid in place. Asking for trouble imo

No diffrent to a spade end or solder blobbed hook I'd imagine.. if Dave lane is using it. I'd say it's pretty sound..

It doesn't have a "hinge" though?

Looks bloody awful to me. Why risk it with the blob when you could albright? Yikes.

I used a similar rig some years ago, but I found the stripped back piece of braid prone to tangling. The stiff part tangled around the mainline or leader. I never had that problem with the original version of the hinged stiff rig so I ditched the coated braid version.

I remember experimenting with a blobbed splice about 15 years ago, caught a few but wasn't 100% confident.
Was looking at my hinge rig last week and thinking if there really was any advantage to having a ring swivel apart from making up universal chods.

⁵The only real advantage of the traditional hinge rig with swivel is it ability to turn 360. Some would say making it easier for the hook to enter the fishes mouth from what ever direction it approaches it from.

The rig the likes of Dave lane and a few others use with stiff material attached to coated braid is more a reverse combi rig fished with a pop up. Than a traditional hinge. I fish something simular using Rigmorales Hydrolink. Only two knots to worry about then..

I've been very pleased with the Camo hydro link, put a few good fish on the bank using it.
Never felt that the fluoro was stiff enough to get a a curve to hold.

I tie a loop in the end and fish it Multi rig style. Your basically using 20Ib Fluro. Can get a half decent curve in it. Even used it doubled up for Chods. Sits lovely with a half decent buoyant pop up..
