I wouldn't want to lol. Gentle lob 30yds maybe?
Personally it's 3.5lb+ test curve for 4oz leads in my opinion, for proper casting.

What's your casting style and what ranges are you tyring to get to?

Progressive cast technique you may be surprised how far you can cast, snapping at the cast not so much.

Depends on the rod, weren't people using 4oz on the Amorphous 2.75 in the 90's?
I've got a Shimano 2.75 travel rod that I'd be fairly confident in giving it a good thump with 4oz, if not a full power cast.
In general though, a 3lb tc would be too soft for anything more than moderate casts with 4oz.

Think I've read somewhere, probably on here, that the optimum casting weight for a rod is each 1b of test curve is an ounce, plus half an ounce. Therefore, you'll cast the furthest with a 3lb test curve rod using a 3.5oz lead.

Again, think it depends on the rod. Years ago I had a set of 2.75lb Century SP's. They were so "tippy", you needed at least 4oz leads to compress them on the cast!
I've currently got a set of 3.25 CFX's which are far happier casting 3oz leads than 3.5oz!
