how often should you replace the braid

I would reverse it as the braid at the bottom of the spool will be like new

Congratulations on going 5 years without losing hundreds of yards due to wind knots and throwing your rod into the nearest tree in disgust.

I've literally only ever had one wind knot with braid. I did not even attempt to sort it out, it was that bad lol. Fortunately it was immediately after launching, so only lost about about 40 odd yards!

I've never had a single issue with braid on spod rod. As soon as I try to use braid on my fishing rods all hell breaks loose. Wind knots, frap ups the lot. Hate the stuff.

Ha, sounds about right. I only use it on spod and marker rods tbh.

Never had an issue with wind knots or fraps when using braid. Avid braid seems to be a winner

Yeah I love the Avid braid as well. Did have one wind knot which was my fault for letting the line go slack when winding in, was pretty easily unpicked though.

Been using braid for 30 odd years now - started with Fireline on the Severn , have never gone back to mono since then. Have tried all sorts , but for the last 15 years or so it's had to be a sinking braid as it helps to keep everything pinned down
Some braids advertised as sinking don't. ( in my experience Fox and Korda ) . JRC Gold was ok , Thinking Angler's SBX superb , but only available in 40bs when I got it . Am currently using Ridgemonkey Descend in 20 lb bs - lovely smooth line which casts and sinks very well.

In all these years of using braid , I've never suffered from wind knots at all ....
