Afternoon all.
I'm looking for a new set of rods.
I'm after an all rounder. Some bag work, with the occasional long distance fishing but also under my tips. 12ft rods as couldn't get on with 13ft or 12'6.
I have been looking at a few rods,
South coast rods, code cipher rods or Harrison aviator plus 2.
Also Rings, I want some rings that will stand the test of time, thinking maybe kigans. But also looking at the new style forward facing rings. Do these actually help with casting??

No such thing as an "allrounder", at best you'll get a compromise. Aviator aren't under the tips rods, other than the flex. And those aren't for real long range. Can't speak for the other 2 you mention. Under the tips you want soft and forgiving, long range you want something stiffer with a faster action.

How far do you need to cast? That's all that really matters.

Max casting 140/150.
I understand that there is no true all rounder. But I don't want to have multiple rod set ups, cost wise I can't afford it lol.
Just want a rod that can at best cast long, not be a total broomstick. If fishing under my tips I can let the rod do the work with the clutch and back wind of the reel

If you want a rod that's capable of 150, then forget any talk of an allrounder, that's a specialised tool.
Only a stiff rod will get those distances.

Going by the fact you're considering Aviator plus 2's I'm guessing you have a £1200+ budget. I would consider looking for a cheaper set of all out long range rods and keep a couple of hundred pounds back for a cheap set of soft 10 footers for close range fishing.

140+ is in the range category IMO . . .personally wouldn't go near standard Aviator Plus in 12' - its a dog IMO especially in the casting category - 12' Plus 2 is 3.5tc and presumably stiffer (I've never messed with it) but so is the standard 13' Aviator Plus and with its extended tip its a much more versatile (and easier to cast) tool than the 12' variant . . .

I have a set of Aviator plus in 13ft and are capable of everything i throw at it. 3.5tc so not to stiff and the tips are pretty soft for a rod that can cast decent distances. I do also have a set of 10fts that I use for boat work as 13fts are a bit of a pig to use in a boat
Have the 12ft CODE Cipher but in a custom configuration with a different handle and Fuji SIC 50mm starter. Unfortunately I cannot comment on the other rods mentioned but me as an older, small and mediocre caster I can cast up to about 100m with them with a small bag and up to 4oz lead without a bag (3.5oz with the bag) and a 0,38 oder 0,40mm main line Gardner Hydrotuff.
I hate stiff rods and I love those CODE Cipher rods which means they really have the proverbial softer tip and stiffer butt section and really really are nice for playing fish. They are the closest to a do everything allround rod I have ever had or seen (quite a few in the 3.5lbs range).
Have thought about the South Coast rods but they are not available in Europe albeit. They sound about the same than the CODE Cipher (which seem to be the FS Hi S Ive ER due to rumours).
I can wholeheartedly recommend the Ciphers. A good caster should be able to cast much farther with an optimized configuration than 90-100m.

I had a good wiggle and bend of the 12' Cipher rods at the local rod builder
and they do feel really nice.
Beefy enough low down but with a sensible action and tip thats soft enough to actually feel the fish.
They would be a great bag chucker

Im very shortly due to receive my Aviator Flexes.
These felt like a nice lttle acton not soft but not super stiff either, recovers very quickly indeed put my very old Armaltes to shame !
The lower secton has all the grunt im gonna need if need to turn a fish.
Dont need to cast to the moon but stll want to enjoy the fight.
Was also a tad worred about hook pulls at the net but dont thnk thats gong to be a problem.
As i dont do / need to fish at range these were for me the ideal middle ground rod.
As i dont use braid i went for TiForged Air Guides from AT with a 40mm butt. Flexble and lightweght
Give Calvn Hancock a call top guy couldnt rate him well enough !

Forget the rest, get the best. Century C2 SP in 13ft 3.75TC are just superb. I can chuck to the horizon with no leader. Or drop a bag in the margins. Play fish all day with zero hook pulls. They really are the best I've owned and I've been angling for 55 years.
