Have been looking at some retractable rods lately but wondered if there are any slightly better ones I've missed?
All seem to be of a similar build and cost around £50-£100 a rod
Looked at Scopes ( would rather not have Nash but they seem to get well reviewed )
Also ESP quickdraw 4k but not a big fan of the cork at the top, and know Whychwood / Fox / Sonik / Daiwa / Avid etc all gave them for sale but all seem to be slightly on the budget end (most are £40-80 a rod )
Any better ones out there? Know scope do black ops version but they are at the other end of the price range at 350+

Lee Preston custom rods has started custom building his own retractable rods range also Cotswold rods do a retractable rod Pace compacts 10ft 3.5lb £120 a rod . Also trakker now do their Propel in retractable rods

I've just picked up a set of 4 custom retractables from Chiltern Rods, you can see the examples on their FB page.
Awesome rods & a great finish, done exactly to what I wanted and with the whippings etc., cannot fault them. The communication was also spot on, received updates at each stage on the rod build & consistently kept up to date with a likely completion and collection date - excellent customer service.
Check them out, won't be disappointed

I've been using Sonik xtractors for about 8 weeks now. Quite incredible how good a rod they are for £45 quid each. Mine are 3.25tc and can cast them about 80 yards and have a lovely action when playing a fish.
These were my first dabble with telescopic rods so didn't want to spend loads, but I can't find a justification to buy anything more expensive, so I've bought a 2.25 one for surface fishing as well as a utility rod. All in for less than 250 quid 👍.
Appreciate, you might want to spend a load on your rods but have a look at the Soniks, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Think nash have just re done their range and have a top middle and bottom range coming. Alan blair goes through it on a recent social media post. Ill try and find it

I've got the Cotswold pace compacts. Which are nice, but I needed a 4th and if you go on fishdeal you can buy the bionic 10ft retractable which are exactly the same in everyway apart from the logo for £58.

Don't go Cotswold route. You can get the same blank etc on the ultimate Bionics for £50 a rod. Brought a set to see what they're like and prefer my old scopes (wanted 10 foot rods my scopes are 9). They're nice rods for the cheaper money, definitely not worth what Tom tries to sell them for.

May just try some of the cheaper ones for now, just to see if I get on with them. new ESP ones look OK.
I saw the other post on the cotswold rods when looking into them which was enough to put me off!

If you're going to go down that route, I can't recommend the Sonik' highly enough, had a set for a number of years & they've been great - only reason I upgraded to a set from Chiltern Rods was I wanted to a set made to my taste.
For the price point, Sonik' are a great choice - if you're going to spend more, I can't see why you'd purchase a Nash mass produced rod when there's no price difference between those and a set of custom ones - not to mention the quality of the build is excellent

Totally agree sonik are at the right. Price scopes overpriced like all there gear poor quality compared to other brands

Never had a problem with my scopes. Probably the best rods I have owned. I like the way i can store them behind my seats on trips instead of down the length of the car. Cast well and i have landed carp to over 50lb and catfish to over 60 on them.

Anyone got anything to say about the Fox EOS pro 8-10ft 3.5lbs rods? I'll probably never cast them, boat use only and I like the idea of a fixed 8ft in the boat to be extended when back on the bank. Even if the crap guides wear after a few years with braid at £70 a rod I won't care too much.
