Hi guys I've just purchased some 17lb xline and I've never used the stuff as a mainline before,,are you meant to soak it before hand etc then does it need to be stretched after?
Fluro doesn't/shouldn't absorb water, you may find soaking may aid with it being wet when spooling but in all honesty I never soaked before loading, all true fluros will need maintaining and stretching out but to be fair X-line is not the worst one to use than say Tiger line which I found was a bit of a mare, there are so many more these days and whilst I've used one or two other dedicated fluros I dont use them any more as they're all a bit of a pig requiring being maintained to get the best out of them and most are like casting a bag of spanners, these days I use the hybrid fluro coated type mono's as they require very little maintenance and cast far better.
Edit: I forgot to mention shallow clear water with any hint of suspended algae or sediment and a bright sunny day give it a few hours and fluro looks like tow rope.

If you soak it in warm water it makes it softer / more supple and easier to load as it beds-down better

load it with a pencil through the spool & not with it coming off the front of the spool as they suggest.

What ever way you do it, it will load like ####. Don't worry, stretch out 100 odd yards after and then reel in under tension with nothing on the end to push out the twist. Probably have to do this at least once a month depending how much you fish.

Was thinking of changing over to Fluro.. I was slowly coming round to the price of it.. 
But reading these comments it seems a lot of phaff for only one real benefit. In that it sinks..

100 yards off spool tie to a tree. Pull tight hold for minute or two. Wind in under tension stop when at the tree. Works same with all fluro

Lack of stretch, lasts a lot longer than mono on the spools aswell. Tbh mono ain't exactly maintenance free, all get twist.
