Evening All,
Can anyone recommend a decent groundbait? The bait firm I used have stopped doing the groundbait I was on previously.
Thanks!

If you're in Essex then Bait Asylum in Bulphan is worth a visit.
Depending how much you need, and to be able to keep using the bait you're already on, could you just put some boilies through the blender and bag it up?

That would be incredibly expensive ground bait! Although I often bring back unused boilies and blitz them to crumb and stick in the freezer.
If you are doing that, cut it with breadcrumb, ground hemp and ground pellet or fishmeal. You can also add spices, msg, etc to it.

I used Hinders A Mix with success and would recommend that.

Boilies are also usually bound up with egg. When you ball up the crumb to chuck it out you're going to end up with a ball of crumb on the bottom rather than a nice cloudy dispersion of ground bait.

Yes exactly. I wanted an actual groundbait to break up easily in the winter. I have made a few myself but not been totally happy with them to date and they are messy!

Although it's expensive I had some amazing catches on Haiths SuperRed years ago. I used to mix it 1 part SuperRed to 2 parts Vitalin, roll it into balls the night before I went fishing & then cast the balls out using a method ball sling. Unfortunately Vitalin isn't available any more, so you'd have to find a suitable replacement, but it was absolutely deadly..

Bait Asylum well worth a visit / chat

I get a 5 kilo bag of soldier fly what they feed the birds with from pound stretchers and blend it up and add a bit of dna insect meal and liquid corn and it's a lovely dark colour that is ideal for shallow water so birdlife can't see it as good as brighter baits, tried this in may with the thinking of it being spring time into autumn and I caught using it.
Black solder flies-Poundland 5k bag
DNA insect meal
Liquid corn
Then I add any hydro or liquids and let it stand again
And a few dried up shrimps as well and I let this stand over night
I'm using this today as I'm off for 3 days after 3 pm so hopefully it works

For me, and I have done a fair bit of method fishing my worry would not be the ground bait but the hookbait. Ground bait is a devastating tactic in my opinion BUT used with little round balls I have found it counter productive. If you are teaching fishi to smell, taste and harvest small particles, especially in late autumn / winter I believe you are alerting them to the hookbait. Any ground bait that I use once the summer is over is about the ease of hookbait introduction. I've sat behind rods for many an hour with fishing literally ‘breathing' food and ignoring hookbaits / traps. I'd think more about carriers of bait than actual traditional ground bait. You can probably buy corn cheaper than ground bait, and some liquidised, some whole with breadcrumbs and small corn / yellow bait has been far more successful for me.
have a go at making your own.
rolled oat or breadcrumbs is a start & add liquids & powders depending on your budget, venue & fishing conditions.
dry ingredients to include are - trout pellet powder, ground birdseeds, ground liver, methi flour(fenugreek), paprika, chilli powder. garlic powder, icing sugar & consider smashed floating dog biscuits / kibble to created an up & down effect.
wet ingredients - fish sauce (Squid), molasses, red bull, guiness, particle liquid, creamed sweetcorn, tins of tuna with juice / oil or any of the bulk liquids available in the match fishing section of your local tackle shop (no carp tax).

Got to agree with Smudge23 the Haiths Super Red is a very good attractant even if expensive. You could always 'cut it' with a cheaper method or groundbait mix. Personally I've done just that with AA Nut Method and lately with DNA Crayfish heavy feeder.
As always, making your own is just as easy and porbably more rewarding, I just don't fish often enough anymore to justify bulk ingredients!

If bread crumb mixed with crumb boilies especially in the winter use brown crumb. White is very stodgy and very filling.
