Hi All,

I've no longer got access to a freezer but have always used freezer bait believing it to be better. However, I know a lot of companies now do short term shelf life baits. I was just wondering what companies you recommend?

The previous company I have used refuse to shelf life and have said it's nowhere near as good as 'fresh' bait because the preservatives stop the bait working as well...

Any advice appreciated.

Companies like Key Baits I've been looking at so far...

Thank you

I switched to DNA shelf life a few years ago as I also was unable to use frozen bait anymore, didn't notice any decline in catch rates. Just use shelf life bug now and it seems every bit as good

Look at responsive baits. They've just released some stabilised baits and I've been using them this year. No nasty preserves just a change in ingredient levels and some natural ingredients added to help preserve them. Not across all the range yet but the CSL and red fish mix are available.

I've had some bait in the garage for 1-2 months and it's been fine and worked a treat where I've taken it.

The A Bait. Only does shelf life, Jason has worked with both when he was the General Manager at Nash so he knows what he is talking about and I can see his point of view (a lot of 'fresh' bait by the time its been frozen, shipped, frozen again, possibly shipped again is far from perfect condition!) . He feeds his own lake with his baits and he would do nothing to ever risk his fish.

He has now caught hundreds (he thinks over 500) of 40's from 50 different venues now so his bait will catch the odd fish or two

I was in the same situation when my freezer packed up. Soley used trent shrimp and I fell lucky with them bringing out their stabilized so gave it a go and it's equally as good as the fresh. It will turn eventually after the bag has been opened so it's not really a full shelf life bait. I buy 25k a time and it's been perfect

A Bait. I've used a few of Jay's baits and they are superb. I especially loved the WASP in winter and the Liver/Shellfish one in the summer. Superb.

Any of A.B.S baits in shelf life are very good. That's where Jason's baits are rolled too.

The best way to test a good shelfie would be to get a few samples from companies and see which ones turn the quickest out the bag.. the ones that don't turn I'd avoid

They don't turn if stored correctly. I.e in a cool dark and above all dry place. Get them wet and they will turn quickly. Part of the preservation process is an extra 2 days drying.
