Was planning on fishing this canal tomorrow onwards had put some bait in already,admittedly it's a few miles away from where it's happened but there's no locks and boat traffic is busy this time of year wondering how long it would take to get to where I was going to go.
Hope they catch the people and punish them

There some seriously big fish in this canal few 30's and 20's,not just the fish though it's the wildlife the plants,insects everything
Hopefully they can contain it asap as I fear this will take years & years to get it healthy again

Such a shame. It is an urban oasis in places a bit further away in Walsall. Lots of Tench around that cut.

Yeah Ive had a tench near 7lb seen eels knocking on 3 feet long (found dead) and had a few 20's out of there and a 32 as well,biggest I had out town stretch where the pollution happened was 26.9.
Looks like it's the lake for me not sure to risk it it's about 13 miles from one lock to another on my bike when I done it in Covid times to see how long it was ,I'd say if I fished the area I was baiting up it's around 8/10 mile away via canal paths give or take.
Still not sure to risk it,just going to have a look now in town then my jup on bus to stretch by me to have a look there too

Update on this the water is being tested for sodium cyanide and apparently loads of birdlife are affected too,whole 14 mile stretch is affected too the very same stretches I've fished I really hope they get the person/people/company responsible for this it's going to take a while to recover

they will as there will be a register of chemicals on every site and theyll basically trawl through and see who is using it and investigate each premises for traces in drains, etc that flow in to the canal. Unlike a river, the canal has little flow so it should be easier for them to trace the source.

Yeah they were appearing yesterday spoke to a lady yesterday via local neighbourhood app and she said they took a duck to vets and a Canadian goose as well as that was coughing up green slime and the vet had to put it down

Public health bosses say they hope to start reducing restrictions “very quickly” on a 12-mile stretch of canals in the West Midlands following a toxic chemical spillage.
Sodium cyanide, which can cause seizures, vomiting and loss of consciousness, was confirmed on Tuesday as the chemical spilled into the waterway in Walsall.
People have been urged not to go near a long section of the canal network and towpaths from the middle of the borough to Birmingham and including connected waterways in Wednesbury, Tipton and West Bromwich.
The authority's interim director of public health, Nadia Inglis, said they were “doing things cautiously but as quickly as we can".
Wildlife experts said the spillage's impact would be devastating.
On Tuesday, council leader Garry Perry said it was too early to speculate how the substance entered the waterway but promised regular updates as a major incident was declared.

If it is found to be a deliberate discharge via the drains, they need to go to prison for a very long time. It should be treated the same as arson.

Is this a"spillage"? Or a euphemism for deliberate discharge? I know which one I'd bet on....
They've now tried to dam the section but I'm hearing as far as Tamworth now fish and birds found dead on surface,I fished the canal various sections over 40 years now had many carp out there and there some bigger ones in there,I'm upset over this as I've had many memories on there as a kid and teenage years night fishing stretches with mates.
What a shame...
