I've got an Aqua Unhooking Mat & Weigh Sling Combi which I haven't used because it's too bulky to fit to the bottom clips on my aqua roving rucksack.
Seems most big mats fold now, are there any decent padded ones of a similar size that roll up? I've been using an old chub which is pants for anything bigger than a low double.

Drennan Specialist or ESP Quickdraw - Drennan comes in a smaller size; note the clips (that attach to each brands rucksack range) are different . . .
They've got lots of slating on here but I like mine and use it for barbel / small water stalking etc

Maybe have a look at the Rigged and Ready ,large roll up unhooking mat,now that is compact,the small version is perfect for tench ,bream ,small carp etc
It all depends in,this case in how well policed your venue is ,ie two tier policing ..on mats..the above may not be tick boxed for some venues ,I'm after one for cycle angling..as it makes the compact drennans ,etc look like a bouncy castle ..

Thanks, I'll take a look, the clips on the rucksack clip to themselves with some webbing to make a loop and pull tight if that makes sense?
Like any club, you see all sorts on the bank, but the last couple of angry mid doubles I landed were a little out of control on the crappy mat I've been using so it's for my own fish care standards rather than general policing.
That esp compact one looks just the job thanks 👍 will do a bit of searching and see what people have slated it for

Ive used an aqua self inflating mat for a while now and its brilliant. Super compact and decent protection.

Peeps have slated it for the cord that effectively 'pulls' the surround into a wall around the mat deteriorating - that and the mat base itself is apparently not 'plush' enough.
I've had my Drennan Specimen for a while now and the cords are fine - but then I always hang my mat up to dry fully after every use rather than leaving it rolled up and rotting. The base is fine and enough to protect average sized fish when unhooking etc; its a compact / roll up product so its never going to be as protective as a full cradle / plush beanie / graviers type mat . . . for stalking / barbel this mat is perfect IMO. It also aligns with fisheries that require a 'walled' mat (although in reality the wall is more of a fence!)

Yeah some of the reviews on here lead to a roll up one from CA. Not much more expensive but does look pretty well made by the pictures online.
I have generally avoided CA due to the premium cost, but maybe this time it'll be worth it and it's as much as the Aqua when I bought it so relative.

I have the cotswold version of the quick draw I've fabsiled the material/underside as it takes a while to dry out,the padding is slightly better than the quick draw imo.
I don't use it for big fish I think it's quite expensive for what it is.

Thanks, it was the £80 one I was looking at.
I'm going to try and roll my aqua mat length wise and see if it'll fit. I've got some webbing and clips somewhere so maybe able to get it to work.
