Hi all,
I'm looking to buy some custom aviator plus carp rods but before I do I thought I would post here. I want 3x 12.6 3.5 carp rods but HAVE to have the alps reel seats with the double lock in nuts as the rods I got now have the single ones and the reel keeps coming loose out the seat. So before I spend a lot of money is there any other rods put there that fit the criteria which are roughly the same or better but cheaper. TiA Rich

Why not add a drop of superglue at one spot on the nut, it'll hold until the sun degrades it and will easily scrape of with a stanley blade, just repeat as necessary.

Alps are the one thing I regret having put on my rods. And Some builders won't fit them at all due to people having rods snap on a big cast due to them having no flex in them

Yeah i would,nt guarantee any rod i build with alps reel seat 👍 Also make sure your reels fit as having a twin lock will make the seats smaller.

Completely agree with this! I won't put an alps seat on any of my builds, seen a few go now for it to not be a coincidence.

I love the look of the Alps seat but agree on it not being very sturdy. Got them on my Sonik Gravity XFW rods, which I love apart from the reel seat. I won a set of Torrix earlier this year and annoyingly I prefer the casting and playing action of the Sonik, but am concerned that the reel seat will go on a big cast, so whilst I was going to sell the one set I've decided to keep them both for now. How easy is it for a rod builder to change reel seats?

It's not that they aren't sturdy, far from it. If anything they are too rigid which is what causes the issues with blanks snapping

Make sure you test the Aviators if you can - I have 12' Aviator Plus and whilst they look the nuts are actually an arse to cast (for a bang average caster like myself). . .12'6" or even 13' are apparently different gravy . .

The 12 '6 " is the better blank im my opinion but if you put more guides on they all become much more user friendly .
