Was having a play with reels in Angling direct and am still amazed by the ss2600. They've been around as long as i can remember. They seem perfect for my 9 foot scopes, and are one of the few reels i actually haven't tried on them, anyone still use them or are there better alternatives?

Used them for years never titivated them just standard and the clutch is wonderful never understood the need for quick drag but thats just me.

Me personally I think the Daiwa GS4000 is a nicer reel over the ss2600

GS4000 is a much smoother reel and has a decent wooden handle

i tend to backwind more these days better for the heavier mono on a smaller reel

I had ss1600 years ago with some scopes, I've just bought some 8ft ESP stalkers and tried most small/mid size reels in my local tackle shop and settled for ss2600 which were well balanced and I know they will last me a lifetime.
There is smoother reels cheaper but Daiwa as have always served me well.

I've got 5 of them and I love them. People talk about them not being smooth (or whatever) but I don't subscribe to that at all. Tackle has to feel right to me and these just do.
