Toying with the idea of getting a set of these made up. Don't need to cast huge distances and want a rod with a decent playing action. Anyone use them, from a bit of a google search they don't seem overly popular for some reason most people seem to go for the plus.

I have a set, they are awesome. Lovely playing action but will punch a lead a good distance if needed .

Love mine. Not the rod for distance fishing, but a lovely action and as Ian said, can punch a lead a long way if needed.

Thanks both for the info. They sound just what i'm looking for, don't fish anywhere that needs a big chuck and i don't think i can hit anything over 90-100 yards anyway. Mainly after something with a it of back bone but a decent playing action. These sound ideal.

I have a set built by Kev Clayton. Lovely rods for playing fish. I've not really tried them at range but they seem to cast well enough.

I can't vouch for the Aviator Flex but another Harrison rod, which I can vouch for, and own, is the Acurix. Lovely playing action, I absolutely love mine.

I've hit a little over 80 yards with room for further, with mine, I've not needed to go any further on the waters I fish, but I imagine I would have no problem in doing so.

I have the Flex in 12ft and the Plus in 13ft, both superb rods. The Flex is probably THE perfect rod for me, light but with plenty of back-bone, can easily put a 3oz lead over 100 yards

Another Acurix user here - 12ft / 3lb. one of the best rods I have used so far. Superb playing action and can hit 100yrds plus with a 2.5oz lead and 0.4 mono. This was giving it the "beans" though.. :-)

The AF is a thicker blank than the Acurix with a semi-parabolic action, the Acurix has a parabolic action.

I will also add that I have not fished with an Aviator Flex...

I would recomend looking at both in the flesh so to speak.

Thank you for that. Might seem a stupid question but difference between parabolic and semi parabolic is that like one being more of a tip action rod bending top 1/3 with power lower down whereas as a parabolic is a through action rod bending all the way through? Have often heard the phrases but too be honest never really found out what they mean.

What you said, pretty much.
Fast Taper = tippy, stiff butt section. 6 foot match rod on a 6 foot Broomstick.
Parabolic \ progressive. Not a true through action rod like the old Avon style, but closer.

Those descriptions are a little misleading in some ways, as how a rod is built has a massive impact on how the blank behaves. The same blank can be made to bend differently depending on how the ringing is done. And also the flex is only slightly thicker than the accurix , but it's still a nice slim blank.

The different is measured in smiles when you play the fish..

Anyone with the 12ft aviator flex rods does it have the same carbon weave through the whole rod blank or is it like some century blanks where the butt section has the carbon weave and the tip section has no carbon weave just bare carbon

I've got a pair and love them. After having gone through a few different rods these are the ones for me. I have fished at 80/85 yards with 0.38mm mainline and some wind but have no need to fish any further than that so not sure how far I could go with them.

They're a joy to play a fish on but have got plenty there when you need to turn one.

Have to be honest I didn't think a rod could be so good all round.
